Why are Semi Auto Shotguns not used more often for HD?

Who says that they don't? :)

Having a long gun that shoulder fast, swings well, and tracks moving targets naturally is pretty important for anything other than bastion defensive shooting. To me, that means that the same qualities that make a carbine or scattergun useful in the field should make them useful for dynamic self-defense usage...

It would be used in your home, there are a limited amounts of places that they could be so you should already have it shouldered and aiming at those places.

If it's possible I may have to shoot at more than one point then I'll take the better handling platform.

Also I want something that handles and functions like the shotguns I get the most use out of, for muscle memory's sake, and none of those are slouches in the handling department.

If it's possible? You should know your house's setup to know what you need best. I haven't noticed any difference with swinging that would effect me. I will admit I'm not that experienced with any other shotguns besides my 1100 and the 870 I used to have but I can't see how it would be a problem. Police seem to be fine with their semi-autos shotguns with extended magazines.

Semiautos and extended magazines {within reason} are no problem in of themselves for the kind of shooting required, heck look at what most 3 gunners are using.

It's when people hang too much stuff off their shotgun or run some kind of configuration that kills the handling, is when they're not getting all they can out of the platform.

My mate has a Remington 11-87, it cycles virtually everything he puts in it, light trap loads up to 00 Buck, the only times he has trouble is when hes using cheapo ammo and the guns dirty, but it still cycles heavier loads fine when dirty.

I've got a pump 870, which I only bought because it was cheaper.
I haven't done a huge amount of shotgun shooting, but I've never short stroked it before.

I would completely trust having an 11-87, I'd prefer it to be honest.

And about the racking the slide thing, even if its true the 11-87 sounds just as frightening as the 870, possibly even more frightening.

That is a good point about 3 Gunners, I forgot about them. My 1100 is stock besides the extension I added.

I considered buying a Tristar 12 ga semi auto with an 18.5 inch barrel and stainless steel. It had an short stock and had a neat "holster" to carry on your back, It was around $250.00 in Anchorage, Ak I conssidered it then and I am still thinking about it. I agree with buy what you will, become proficient with it, and shoot it til it is dry in an SD/HD situation.

Why buy a Tri-star or some other off brand semi-auto? You can find 1100's for under $400 easy. I just bought one for under $300. You can buy the o-rings for a dollar at the hardware store. You can find extra barrels, stocks and parts everywhere.

....This is why I carry a HK P7M8 or a S&W 625 instead of a Taurus or Rossi...quality does matter.

I was with you until here--You are free to carry whatever you like and state that you would or would not recommend a particular gun, but to use a broad-brush to disparage an entire line of guns is wrong. I have 2K plus through my Taurus semis absent a hiccup and CCW my 92 in the cool months. I have great confidence in the quality of my guns.

-Cheers
