I can go to walmart and buy a 10/22 for $180 or so. at the gunshow last week used ones are 200 and up. here too. what gives?

Several years ago when Walmart was selling 10-22's for $159, I was at a gunshow. Saw a used one on a table for $225. Wondering if it had some special custom features to warrant such a price I picked it up to discover it was a plain old used gun that should have been priced at around $100-$125. The dealer proudly told me He would take $200 out the door. Without thinking I commented that I could get a new one for $159. Dealer was not happy with me and I got cussed out. I know I should have kept my mouth shut and just said "no thanks", but it was just a reflex. Gunshows do have some deals and fair prices, but there are more than a few jerks there with over priced guns.

Wow, $129.99 new? Too bad I live in Indiana, because a 10/22 is on my wish list.

For the most part, I've found that everything at gun shows are overpriced. That being said, I've bought five of my six current guns at a gun show, and all for very good deals. The best was my CZ-75 BD for $399, new, with two mags.

Shop around at the gun show. One table you might see a used 10/22 for $200, and two tables down it might be $120.

the new ones are terrible, terrible bluing spraypaint on the bbl, terrible on the receiver, uneven and chunky, and now, the entire trigger group is plastic.
most dudes in the know, will take an older one anyday; you can rework , reshape the factory parts, or keep them as backup, and add other good stuff.

a few years ago I bought every 10/22 walmart had @ $109.00 (six of them), then resold them on GB for $149.00

I think that this translates to many guns and I think it is partly because some people are just nuts.

When I was looking for a 30-30 I put a want ad out locally on the internet. One guy replied that he had one he'd let me have for $450. Like jmr40, I told him I could get a nice used one at almost any local gun shop for less than $250, probably scoped.
I then went to a local store a couple weeks later and proved it.

Lots of places have them for $179.00 as a way to get you in the store for other accessory sales. Gun show vendors are only interested in the immediate sale of that particular firearm and get whatever the traffic will bear! "Buyer beware" like everything else in the life of a consumer!

As to today's 1022, at least from serial # 351- XXXX, I'd rather have an old one than today's issue with plastic trigger guard and other plastic parts. Of course I'd much rather have a "real old one" (pre 1971) than just an "old one"

Typical gun show jack ups. I love asking telling them that I can buy that same 10/22 new for less than that not old beat up one they have, same goes for just about anything.
Tell the ammo guy that his $25.00 box of Rem Golden Bullets sell for $12.00, less than a mile away.

Gun shows are a total rip off anymore. There are an occasional deal but.....

Yeah, but I still hate to see them fade from the shooting landscape.
It's never been in our interest to have only a few mega vendors handling guns and related products. Once the traditional outlets and vendors, including gun showers are gone............ grab your butt!

The price of used guns like Ruger 10/22, Remington 870, Marlin 336 are often higher at gun shows than buying a new one at the major retailers. Places like Dicks or Gander buy these models in such high numbers that they can sell them retail for less than what a small dealer pays wholesale.

wow, I dindn't know the trigger group had gone plastic!

What about the internals? trigger, hammer, bolt catch, mag catch, safety, etc?

You're coming real close to admitting to a felony there.:uhoh:

I agree gun shows are more expensive but you can't knock a dealer for trying to make a few bucks as long as he doesn't gouge you!I 've saw high point guns a lot higher than what I sell them for!most people are living 10 years ago on prices!they don't realize how how everything is!Gas,ammo, guns, ect! As for the 10/22's I'm a dealer and I just checked on the wholesale price of of a 10/22 and I couldn't sell you one with a birch stock/blue out of my shop for less than $230.00 + tax so if someone is selling them for $179.00 they are giving it to you for cost - shipping!buy them if you can for that!I've got to make a few bucks or there's no use having a license and dealing with all the bunk (atf audits ect) and paperwork! You should patronize the local sshop and not try to squeeze him so tight he can't make any money. After all the manufactures set the prices, not us!I can't knock anyone for trying to get a deal (me included)but everything is high:gas, groceries, everything!good luck on your purchases.

i just got a good used one for 160.00,new would have been 220 new. I think i got a good deal. and at least its the older style, all metal.i never thought they would cut corners on the 10/22. what a shame.nothings safe anymore.....
