Why are we not talking about the Ruger 5.7 Yet?

Not much room for error with a 50k psi cartridge.

And remember that max charges are from 4-6 grains with a 40 gr bullet. So a 0.1 gr charge variation can be a 2.5 percent difference. It's also a pain to hold on too. Then there is the polymer coated brass which is actually not a huge deal. It doesnt come off very easy. I don't find it difficult just an annoying but it is a weigh every charge kind of cartridge. I'd never use a powder measure.

Depends on what you're wanting to load for. In my mind the best reason to load the 5.7 is to cheap-ify the shooting experience. Load hot enough to get good reliability and then just enjoy shooting the gun. Also should provide some cushion for safety.

Probably most of the K-B's we hear about are people using powders that are too fast and/or loading to the ragged edge trying to squeeze every last drop of velocity out of this little guy.

The lower the charge the higher the standard deviation and extreme spread with the same 0.1 percent variation. For pop can/plinking ammo it's not a problem though. I dont worry so much about kabooming mine. I also havent had any issues with feeding that some folks report. Just for making accurate ammo the low charges (same with 25 and other small charge loads, not picking on just the 5.7 but no one cares about deviations in the 25. IME) make the 5.7 more challenging to make " good" ammo. And the FNH ammo is remarkably consistent and accurate. Many find MOA possible, from a pistol . It's one of few cases where I believe it's harder to make more accurate ammo than just buying it. Weighing charges it's a non issue but none of my 4 brands of powder measure will do .1 grain accuracy over many rounds. I'm not discouraging loading for it. I dont think it's much different than any other small capacity round but most small capacity rounds arent expected to have 100 yard accuracy either. 9mm also has 4 grain charges with some powders but most dont expect small deviations in 9mm or other pistol cartridges

Will the average consumer shoot the new R57 enough that the price of factory ammo becomes a problem?

At these prices I highly doubt it. I have worn out numerous rimfires and a 9 and a 40 and even though I have a spare 5.7 put up to save I doubt I'll ever hit the 20k to burn out my barrel. I carry it on the tractor or on walks just as a varmint gun.

BUT. If the ruger gets down to another market (and at 650-700 I dont see it but at 4-500 maybe...) then all it would take is a cheap ammo company making range grade ammo. The FNH ammo is much closer to most companies match grade ammo than not. Standard deviation is remarkably low.

Believe it or not I'm pulling for wolf or tula to step in with a cheap fmj..... it is poly coated after all so why not. And the only wolf I ever even bought was in 5 45x39 or in 22. Lol. Get the price more in line with the trash they sell for 9mm and I believe it will be a different ballgame. One can hope. The gold dot is a welcome addition but I believe a cheap ammo is what is needed for the caliber to be accepted

Nothing in the Hornady 10th unless I missed it.

I'll have to check then in mine. I thought I bought it for the 5.7. Maybe it was the 460 and 500 that I bought it for. I dont buy new calibers often.

What about the Lyman 49th. I have that one. Maybe it was it that I got for 5.7

Whichever one it is has a sticker explicitly stating "with new calibers including the 5.7x28"

Funny thing, I'm one of those brass junkies that pick up just about every cf piece of brass on the range, providing nobody is there to claim it. I have picked up a fair share of 5.7x28 brass. After running through walnut media, it still looks dirty. I had no idea about the lacquered coating, and thought it was brass left in the weather too long. lol

So check a different distributor. RSR for example.

There are guns listed on gunbroker now.

Gotta wait until the other lgs reopens on Saturday.

And people never list stuff on gun broker they don't actually have their hands on.

Well, by the weekend or early next week you should be able to find one. Probably not the best time for Ruger to launch a new product right between two holidays.

What they should have done is announced this and the LCP .22 about two weeks before Christmas.
