There are plenty of other firearms discussion sites, dozens, hundreds even.

So, why here?

Referred from a member on Glocktalk.

I am no longer a member of Glocktalk.

:D

The board is a friendly place to discuss firearms. In my short time here, there seems to be an absence of protected trolls from the "other side". :D

Because of the commonality and bonding of the members of this particular forum. I have felt a trust with many members of THR. The civility experienced here is second to none. The subforums are very informative and the people who post to them knowledgeable. The moderators do a good job keeping the playing field level. The percentage of flaming is low.
There are many reasons why I frequent THR. RBKA issues and keeping abreast of them. Gun issues and the hows and whys. Rifles, Pistols, Shotguns on occaison. THR is one of the greatest gun forums of its kind. Please don't change a thing.

I noticed that many of the questions I was posing thru Google showed TheHighRoad as the site where the question was being discussed.

After I "lurked" for awhile, I learned about the concept of "High Road", as opposed to some of the offensive chatter I saw on some of the other sites.

So, the combination of knowledgeable people and decent manners is what attracted me. I hope to live up to the standards others have set.

This one is easy for me.

I respect and actually want to know a number of the people on THR.

I won't deny that I've considered leaving THR before. There are certain things that I don't care for that are prevalent here. I have differing opinions about some of the logistics of the board's mission, as well.

For instance, I don't see how we can TRULY deal with RKBA discussions WITHOUT discussing politics.

Politics IS very much a RKBA issue.

But I understand the logic as it applies to how the members here (including me) conduct ourselves.

But sometimes, I get weary with it. I come back because there are people here who I value.

I do, however, visit other forums when I am THR. I just don't post as much on those. Among them....

AR-15.com
Zombiehunters.org
THR.us
Saiga-12.com
Allthingszombie.com (why not?)
Warrifles.com
Snipershide.com
Snipersparadise.com
Opticstalk.com
6mmBR.com
M4carbine.net
SHTFmilitia.com

I used to be on:

AKFiles.com
FALFiles.com
Gunboards (got bored with it)

However, I don't have the personal relationships on any of the above boards that I do with THR members (with the exception of Zombiehunters.org)

I like the versatility of THR. Lots of knowledge among members of this forum, they've saved my rear a few times.

hso, many have listed the reasons I am here--civility being the main one. I lurk at a few other forums when I am following a link or need some specific information that I could not find on THR but settled here.

JWarren nailed it though as far as respecting and wanting to know THR members. I'd love to sit in a rocking chair and drink lemonade with sm. For that matter, I'd love to sit around a campfire with many a gentleman on this site.

There is another site that has a couple of annual squirrel hunts, and I feel the seem way about those group of guys and I may yet go to one of their hunts especially since it's only a few hundred miles away. The funny thing about that forum is that it does not seem too moderated, but the members pretty much take care of things themselves, but I wander right now.

I'm Your Huckleberry, that there is funny. Good luck with that. IF we succeed, maybe we can tackle the caliber wars and put them to bed as well.

The main thing here at THR for me is the breadth and depth of the forum combined with the civility and lack of filthy language.

I'm just here for the walmart threads and caliber wars.

In all seriousness the rules on this site make it a very pleasant experience for me. That combined with the scores of knowledgeable people on here makes it a pleasure to post here. I briefly looked at other sites, but they paled in comparison.

Im in the "google lead me here" camp.
I asked google, and it showed me the light.

Ive been to several other sites where:

1. Someone make a thread
2. X number of people answer
3. Those same X number of people turn on each-other with insults
4. The thread is never truthfully address / answered.

I would like to see some politics talked about here because it is the deciding factor on the RKBA, but I understand why they arent talked about here.

google is your friend, roadwild. And you're right about the sequence of a lot of threads on other boards. I've even seen some threads specifically posted to bash other threads, and new threads popping up like them little devil/hammer games at arcades. If I were a mod a one of those, I would not be a mod for long.

But I suppose to truly keep this thread high road, we shouldn't turn it into a "Other forum" bashing thread.

Don't think I could have said it better!

Well, you got to think of it this way...

I occasionally go into AR15.com's "General Discussion" JUST to read some of the crap there.

In-fighting, Insults, ect. ---

Sometimes it's not an annoyance- It's a feature.

I have never laughed as hard anywhere as I have on some of the GD threads on ARF.

But then I go to their techincal and to THR for REAL discussions.

Everything has its uses- even if the uses are just to entertain, confuse, and shock you.

:)

I'm here for the firearms discussions that don't devolve into idiotic name-calling, trolling, and gratuitous obscenity that seem to be prevalent at other sites.

Just like in real life, I enjoy the opportunity to either ask genuine questions, or participate in reasonable, logical debates without the inane degree of name-calling and stupid personal attacks.

In short, I'm here BECAUSE of the fact that it is "The High Road."

This.

The depth and breadth of knowledge here is amazing. Combined with people who are wiling (and eager) to share. Amazing!

I like THR because it's a generic guns site. One can read info about a variety of firearms. THR is one reason I recently (over the last few months) bought two single action revolvers (both Rugers).
There seems to be less internet "experts" on THR, which is good.
And the moderators keep things on track without being petty tyrants.

I like this forum because there is a variety of opinion without the nastiness. We have the Glockers, 1911 fans, and sig-nuts and everyone is free to express their admiration for whatever particular weapon. I actually like my combat tupperware and my 19 antique, so its nice to have someplace where I can come and ask a question or talk about either :)

The information on THR has been more reliable, largely due to a handful of members who are invaluable. The people are more polite, generally. The board is active enough to keep daily interest. The classifieds are worth checking often. The sub-forums are appropriately structured (anybody been to rimfirecentral recently, sheesh). I like the green and white, and find it easier to read. The site is well run, from a technical standpoint. The site is well run from a moderation standpoint.

I think I googled "gun forums" and here I am. I stayed because of the number of members mainly. I'm on the net at random hours and it seems like there are always people on every thread. I'm on some other sites that may take 2 days for any kind of response. I'm out on those sites.....what's the point? You usually get some kind of thread response in minutes here. Any I value "most" opinions here also.

For me, the name says it all. This site appears to be populated by rational, open minded individuals from all walks of life who share a common interest. Unlike other boards I've checked out where a few very opinionated individuals controlled the agenda of the rest. I feel my opinions will be respected here. Not necessarily agreed with, but respected.
