Why do I shoot my autoloaders better?

Could be also due to lack of practice at certain distances. Speaking for me only and not anyone else, I normally practice at long distances with frequency at 50 yards, but up to a 100 yards occasionally with my full size 1911 and with frequency can hit a paper plate 50% to 60% of the time at a 100. At 50 yards or closer I will hit the plate 100% of the time. So it lets me know I need to shoot more at 100.

Funny thing a while back my wife insisted on buying a 642 airweight against my wishes and only shot it once and I inherited the gun. So one day I decided to practice with it at 10 yards and I could not hit my target at that distance. So I moved to 7 yards, and same thing happened I missed. At 3 yards I was able to put 3s round into the target. It surprised the heck out of me because on occasion I would put in my pocket if I had to make a quick run to the store for bread or milk and I did not feel like putting my gear on. I think small guns especially like mine are inheritly more difficult to shoot if one does not practice with it. I realized that for me the 642 is a belly gun. In other words you literally have to shove it into someones belly if you are defending yourself. So unless you practice at distances with the gun you carry you can easily become handicapped with your own gun .

There is a lot of truth to what JTQ stated about the trigger pull. I bought a crimson laser for the 642 and because of the short aiming radius of that gun I practice aiming at objects around the house and than engage the laser and it reveals to me that I suck at aiming with that gun, and than I dry fire and by the time I squeeze the trigger the laser dot is off target. The laser is a great tool for me because it lets me see how I am moving all over the place. At 3 feet the laser point is on target even though I squeeze the trigger but you move 10 yards you can see how a little movement of 1/2 an inch at your end, magnifies to a foot or more 10 yards away.
