My first choice is avoidance.
My second choice is to run, or drive away.
If those two fail, then I turn to my gun. It should always be the last choice, not first.
In regards to drawing on someone who is pointing a gun at you, as others have said it's a really bad idea, and you'd better have exhausted every other option.
Your first best and most powerful weapon is your vehicle.
If some perp with a gun is coming at you and there are no obstructions, see how fast your vehicle will do 0 to as fast as it can go.
If there are obstructions that's where the gun come in.
I think many on here would have instinctively done the same thing the man in the story did if we were caught off guard like he was.
It's cute to be able to quarterback things after the fact but there are always too many variables in any specific situation to be able to give a broad "this is what you should do" answer.
If it's possible to drive off obviously do so, but if your gun is needed you better know how to use it in that situation.
