Why do people become anti-gun?

Elitism

Many good answers here. Another could be elitism. "Guns for me, but not for thee". Those with the guns want to remain in power over those without guns. Dianne Feinstein and Joseph McNamara come to mind.

I know of several veterans from several wars that is disgusted with firearms, they consider it as a necessary evil, but would rather not use another one again.

Some people just don't like guns. The only fault I find with them are the ones that want to force everyone to not have them. I also find fault with pro gun people who resort to insults when talking about anti gun people.

"Anti gun idiots, sheep", etc, doesn't do the pro gun case any good. Not showing anyone any respect never helps the cause.

"This is a serious question, and one which parallels another thread about why you first became interested in firearms. Because I have always been interested in firearms, early on I was puzzled why people became anti-gun."

People become anti gun for the exact same reasons they become anti anything: a lack of information, personal bias, and or ignorance of the topic at hand. I try to reserve my opinion of anything until I have actually done some research on the topic, but human nature is human nature....

Absolutely right...

Something for everyone to think long and hard about.
