Why do people post pics of targets...

That is the entire point of the OP. CONTEXT is everything. A target without relevant information is meaninless.
Context is what I'm trying to get out of Casefull. A criticism without context is about as useful as a target without context. ;)

people post for the fun of it. where else are you going to share fun with more people about your hobby but in your hobby related forum. that being said i enjoy the info with targets. (i can't do that, i can do better, oh he's really good and will be worth getting advice from etc...). distance and manner of shooting though i think should always be included to allow for more enjoyment from the viewers standpoint. also to avoid having to ask the question later.
it's about sharing your sense of achievement.

why do people post pics of our run of the mill production guns,( does one 686 look different from another),first reloads even if there's no question regarding the bullets, our relading setups. it's just sharing your enthusiasm regarding your hobby. also to allow the enablers to chime in and for affirmation( great choice, great deal etc...)

i find it fun. if it's boring to me , i won't read the whole thread but i will never be the know it all to tell others it is not worth reading. they can form their own opinion.

when i first got a gopro. i mounted it on a chesty and took a video of my bike ride. i had looked at some videos that were worse from the same site and those still gave me some enjoyment and an idea of what somebody else's local trails looked like. the first commenter said. "move along, nothing to look at here, just another unstabilized chest footage etc...." i was so pissed. i wasn't pushing anything but just sharing my ride. i never posted anything else there.

Here's a couple 10 shots group I made on the second range trip with my Pardini GT9-1, 10 yards, two hands standing, no rest between the shots, shooting Geco 124gr. FMJ-RN.

Another two five shots groups, two hands standing, no rest between the shots, 10 yards, Fiocchi Top Target Plus 124gr. CP-RN with the same gun.

Yes, informations are everything and I always try to add them in my posts.
I made some other groups similar to the first two. I'm yet to do other groups like the last two.

Regardless if they post all the details, off hand 25 yards, the type of ammo etc its still comes down to "what some guy said on the internet". Take it with a grain of salt.

That said I don't get why people even bother posting things like 7 yard targets

Simply an expression of pride (or frustration), I'd guess. I don't know that I've posted any online (might have), but if I'm impressed with my results I do tend to bring the target home from the range for a day or two.

It's more self-gratification, and less information sharing or seeking, other than "for me, I can shoot this gun good".

Now, there have been times I've been tempted to post for actual info- I have a Savage 1907 in .32 that I can't figure out how to shoot. If I brace it firmly on a sandbag I can hit cloverleafs on the bulleye at 7 yds. Standing and shooting offhand at that same distance I have "groups" of close to 2 ft. This doesn't occur with any other gun I own, regardless of vintage, caliber, or condition. I concentrate and try to replicate the same grip, stance, etc, but it's like it's shooting knuckleballs instead of bullets. It's just weird. Someday I might post a target for the board's amusement and dissection, if I ever can refrain from tearing one to pieces...

I had a S&W 6906 that did that. I traded it telling the new owner it shot great off the bags but I couldn't shoot it for crap off hand.

Years later I tried a 469 and didn't have any problem at all. I can't explain it.

In my case I got vertical stringing which you would think was inconsistent grip but no matter what I tried it continued to string about 12" at 25 yd off hand and would group round off the bags.

Someone later suggested inconsistent barrel lockup and bag pressure pushing it to the same place...I can't really picture it but makes as much sense as anything.

Maybe to prove a point. Like X ain't accurate or can't shoot a certain weight bullet with X twist or some such. Or FALs can't shoot better than 4 MOA (my personal trigger point) or someone thinks yer lying, or someone is just plain wrong on the internet.

I have posted targets with info because of some of the above. Maybe someone just doesn't believe me because my name is mikey and thinks I'm still living at home in my mother's basement. (had to revise my signature)

Because it makes them happy.
250 yards open sights, one handed with a Browning Buckmark in 25 mph wind. each string within 5 seconds with a mag change every 5 shots. I was just comparing consistency of ammo. Pay no attention to the "10/22 or 50 foot" writing :)
