Why Do You Need More Than 10 Rounds?

My SIG P228 is designed to hold more than 10 rounds. Using magazines with less seems un-American. We have Super-Sized Fries, Extra Value Meals, Big Gulp Sodas. I want a Biggie Magazine!

When I need to protect myself and my freedom, I want the most reliable, most durable, highest capacity weapon possible. The only thing hunting and target shooting have to do with freedom is that they're good practice.

This whole thing is more than a 2nd amendment issue, it's a freedom and liberty issue.

problems we have, even starting when I was in school, is that we spent time on "... this is george Washington and he was the general of the army for the 13 colonies and the first US president. This is Thomas Jefferson and he wrote this and that."

See soemthing missing? Our founding fathers are more than just people who fought the British and wrote some words on paper. Our youth is not being exposed to what these men were about.

I am a growing fan of Robert A Heinleins science fiction. Because of some of the things that I have read in those books, it made me go back and read the thoughts and ideals of people like Washington, Jefferson, Hamliton, Paine, Franklin, etc.

If our youth were taught these things, we wouldn't have to come up with answers to the original posters question. The younguns would already know through common sense why these things are necessary and why the US Constitution in it's purest form is probably one of the greatest document ever written in the history of man.

Robert A. Heinlein wrote in revolt in 2100:
When any government, or church for that matter , undertakes to say to its subjects, ‘This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,’ the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything – you cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him.

Thomas Jefferson wrote:
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.

I know I'm prreaching to the choir, but all this talk today from the gun-grabbers and those that would protect us from themselves is making my head hurt and turning on the rant valve.

I need a nap. :(

If you have more than one finger you could poke me in the eye. Shouldn't we cut off your fingers (10) to below the number that could be used to harm me? The preemptive strike strategy can be used to take away everything that anyone could have.

If need be, my Glock can give El Presidente to half a dozen aggressors without reloading. Anything less is an arbitrary and capricious infringement passed by ignorant, pandering cowards in the halls of Congress. See you in hell, AWB!

Maybe it's just me, but magazines that have a 10rd. chastity belt false bottom look dorky.
I had no problem with the 8rd. capacity of my SIG P220 mags, but the 10rd. mags. that came with my P226 p.o.'d me. And it wasn't just the difference in horsepower between .45 and 9mm; it's that my ability to purchase the best possible defense was compromised because some politicians compromised themselves.
I am reminded of 1968 when we were faced with trading in our smooth running muscle cars for the stumbling, sputtering p.o.s. that were supposed to keep the air clean. For those of us who love the outdoors and cherish the wilderness, it is a sin to foul the air, but the thought of all those beautiful horses being corralled and strangled was more than some of us could take.
I have never needed more than 10 rds. I have never even needed 1 rd. But if the S ever does HTF, I want every possible advantage. As the saying goes, you will probably never need a gun, however, if you ever do, nothing else will do.

The solution. Er, well, a fun afternoon

Every gun club needs a little set-up like this.

When some moron asks this illogical question, he/she is shown to an open area with a few obstacles maybe. They are given a paintball gun w/only a ten ball capacity (of course) and a mask. They are allowed unlimited paint balls, but only ten round sticks . That is all. Then someone else is given a paintball gun with a full drum :D Hell make it a few others with full drums. The opponents also have unlimited ammo. But they can reload a couple hundred rounds at a time.

Oooh, one more thing. Everyone has to wear shorts and t-shirts.

The catch is...whoever runs off the field of play first loses the ten round magazine limit.

Sounds fair to me! Then they can try to explain their new position. Well if they can quit crying.

BTW - for those of you who haven't been shot with a paintball gun without some kind of protection - it hurts. :what:

Don't flame me, I just like to think nice thoughts :D

Sometimes you just need more

When you are asked why you need more than ten rounds, try this:

Ask them the top speed on their car's speedometer. Even a Honda Civic will have a dial that goes to 110 (even though it would shake itself apart before it got there). Now ask him why anyone should be able to drive faster than 70 MPH (or whatever your state's top speed is). Ask him if he can picture a scenario where it might be necessary to be able to go 80 MPH to avoid a speeding semi, or take quick action.

When you give them a situation they can relate to, they come around more easily.

Because if I ever need to shoot somebody to defend myself or my family, I want to be able to shoot them as many times as possible.

You need more than 10 rounds because the authentic version has more than 10 rounds. That's how the gun was designed, and by golly, that's what you want. You are not interested in an arbitrarily scaled down, civilian plinker version, as if you can't be trusted with the real thing. I believe we call that infringement.

Ok... I dissagree with that civic at 80mph thing. Carrying a Glock with 17 rounds is no more dangerous than a glock with 10 rounds... driving a civic faster than 75 is NOT safe... now if it were a TOYOTA, then we'd have a different matter... :D :p  :neener:

The best argument is that it has never been conclusively demonstrated why ordinary people should have a magazine capacity limit forced down their throats, especially since reloading can take one second or less for an experienced person. It's a complete non-issue, and really only makes sense for weapons that are capable of automatic fire.

IIRC, the average number of shots fired by criminals, when they shoot during the commission of a crime, is around three. Feel free to correct me on this.

I think the best argument is no argument. Why allow it to be open for debate and get snookered by some slick talker, when your position was secure in the beginning?

Bans and restrictions are unconstitutional. :neener:

Any debate will be whether that will be supported. A State ban challenges the 14th amendment. Don't get lost in the trees.

I think RealGun have a good point. Arguing with these folks won't get us anywhere.

In the mean time, I'm taking friends, and relatives, and theirs to go shooting. May be it will open their eyes.

In the land of the free, why are deliberate limits on capability (not actual action; capability) enforced under threat of imprisonment?

I long wondered why BMWs, Mercedes, Porches, etc. are routinely built to remarkably high levels of capability ... until I drove on the Autobahn myself. Actually putting the pedal to the metal, pushing the mid-luxury Opal to its limits, straining up to 125MPH - and having to watch behind me lest I get run over gave me a viceral new understanding of why one should strive to possess tools of capabilities exceeding the user.

I had a chat once with a security guard who, leaving work, found himself the focus of target practice by some creeps. Three of them in the dark & bushes, he centered in the well-lit parking lot, they lost everything - and it took him not 3, not 10, but 50 rounds to stop the assault.

Don't tell me I can't have a car capable of 140MPH just because the speed limit is set by a busybody do-gooder at 55.
Don't tell me I can't have a magazine capable of 12 (Glock 26 design capacity) , 19 (Glock 17 capacity w/+2 extender), 30 (standard AR15 mag), or 100 (Beta-C mag) rounds just because the capacity limit is set by a busybody do-gooder at 10.

Those who haven't used tools to their limits should never place law-enforced limits on those who do.
