Why does half of the gun community want to be "tactical"?

Warfare is a necessary part of life on Earth, but civilised people tend to agree that it is an ugly thing and should be conducted as rarely as possible. That's why so many of us regard the enthusiasm for instruments of modern warfare as questionable taste, at best.

Everyone here is a gun ethusiast from the newest "noobie" whose questions get slammed and occasionaly mocked (it does happen) to the grizzled internet veteran (whose word is taken as law) Some are ex special forces, some weekend warriors, some just great shooters and some just shoot to eat. Tactical, operator, hunter, competitor, LEO, enthusiasts, end reason is we all love and respect firearms, we should do the same for one another. Lord knows there are enough lobbyist against us.

Well spoken sir. :)

Tactical is cool, but, really once you have been and once you hang out with the really bad boys (I was army, I was trained by, worked with, and had friends who were and are SF) You realize that they are just people who have trained themselves to a level that is uncommon in civilian life, and they are supported by a team that allows them to focus on their mission, and many of them sacrifice things like family and even their lives for their mission.

But the first hurdle is a major one, it's the one that separates the wanna-be's from those who are, it's mental toughness, the fortitude to do what needs to be done. Go for a walk, how many will make it 5 miles, how many will make it 10, how many will make it 20? How many people have the will to complete an almost impossible task, like hauling a 3 wheel jeep with flat tires 5 miles?

If you know what it cost emotionally, even in pain, do you really want to be tactical, or do you just wanna be a WANNABE and look Tacki-Kool?
Glad someone actually pointed out that some people do live "tactical lifestyles."

So what if some idiot on youtube wants to be a burnt out rock star of gun ownership? People are allowed to be idiots.

No one buys hair metal albums anymore, but they still buy Bob Seger albums. ;)

People are also worried about what others do to a fault. The guy next door not paying his rent doesn't make my landlord think I'm not going to pay my rent.

Wow, the first complete thread I read (almost ) but I joined anyway ;) . Just wanted to remind some of you that camo was used by hunters and civilians for at least centuries before any military even considered it. Does that mean soldiers are wannabe civilians? I think not. Lets stand together for our freedoms and stop trying to shoot each other in the foot.

okie

First, Soldier of Fortune has been around my whole adult life and I'm in my mid 50s.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people wanting to dress in camo, and I'm a twenty year has been not a wannabe. Also, I don't see any difference between that and Cowboy shooting, Civil War reinactors or the black powder guys. No one seems to make fun of them though.

I tried the tactical world when I was in the Army and that was enough for me. I kinda suspect that the 'Tactical' stuff is like Harley Davidson riders. It's the image. I don't pretend to be a soldier anymore and I ride a Goldwing. Might be due to the 68 winters I've lived on this planet. I don't think the Tactical stuff hurts anything it's just another part of the shooting fraternity.

I'm not sure what we are trying to accomplish with a thread insulting each other. Perhaps someone could PM me and explain it.
