I’ve been a little busy this pass Two weeks and really haven’t posted much, or started any new topics. That’s because I’ve had company and been busy working on stocks.
My Buddy, Matt AKA, Bitrclngr, comes down about every year, or two, to hangout, work on stocks and eat good food. Matt arrived on June 29th and we started working on stocks the next day. We just finished up today. We worked on 11 rifle stocks for Matt. Repairs were from simple cracks to major cracks on stocks that some would just throw away.
I did most of the work while Matt played Gopher. This made work go much faster. We did take it easy a few days. We went shooting twice at the indoor range and stopped off to look at a few bare gun shops.

Things didn’t look as good when we started, but after some clean, repairs and some Tom’s 1/3 Stock Wax, things started looking and smelling better.
Here are a few pics from the pass two weeks. I’ll be creating some topics in the Gunsmithing and Repair section of the forum over the next few weeks, going over some of the repairs.
We also worked on some of my guns and repaired two guns stocks for a local guy. All in all I worked on 22 gun stocks in the last two weeks.

That 'stache (been lettin' it grow out?) is starting to make you look more like Sam Elliott every day (minus the long hair, of course).

Good you're keeping busy; those rifles look pretty nice now.
That old stache used to make Sam Elliott look like a baby  This pic was taken about 22 years ago.
Radiation treatments kind of messed things up and the left side doesn’t grow as good as the right now.
I like not having to trim it every week now.

In the group of rifles, the second from the left is a Steyr M95 in 8x50.
It was just about broken in half, and had a nail in it. Here are two pics from when I started on it.

Good deal! At first I was worried that you were going to say that you were allergic to gun oil or cosmoline or something and had to sell all your Mosins.:what: Thanks for thinking of us novices with your tutorials.
If I were allergic to gun oil or cosmoline, I would have died the first day we started working on the guns. :)

FWIW when I went through 2 years of chemo and my hair all fell out I thought it was toast. When it grew back to my surprise it was thicker, curly, and came back in where it had been missing on the top. One of the few good things about that time. My time reloading and working up more precise loads while recovering gave me something to look forward to and helped me focus on the positive side of the whole experience on those days I was so sick I stayed in bed.

Haven’t been able to grow a mustache in the last 20 years (nothing like a touch of skin cancer to give you religion...). Working on the water down in south Florida can be tough...

Outstanding craftsmanship... Keep it going

I second the notion of you winning the Sam Elliot Look-Alike contest! Nice to see you in front of the camera for a change! Always appreciate the DIY info and photos to go along with the repairs.

Most often I work alone in my shop, which makes it hard to take pics of me doing work. Matt did a great job of taking pics.
We added up the cost of the repairs to his stocks, giving him the good friend prices, and it came out to $1400, but I never charge him. When Matt comes down to visit, he helps organize things in the shop and helps with the repairs. He’s gotten pretty good at Oil Scrubs, Cleaning and waxing stocks. He’s also learning how to do repairs at the same time.

Some more "good on you" for helping Matt and passing along your gun repair knowledge and expertise to him!
