Why is Beretta CX4 so darn expensive compared to an AR?

Look up what Sierra Papa does to the Storms.
Part of the additional expense in mine was replacing plastic parts with better quality guts.
And part was a quick-reaction light-weight red dot.

One other nice feature is that the Beretta easily breaks down for cleaning, and doesn't require half a tool box like another brand I won't mention again.

The Storm's admittedly a niche gun, but that doesn't mean it's totally worthless.
If it has no appeal, then don't buy one. :)

One other thing I'll say- For indoors work (and I spent a number of years clearing houses & other buildings) I'd pick mine in a heartbeat over an AR.
Much easier to handle with either hand & the muzzle blast is nowhere near as severe.

I like BCA since they are down the road from me, supporting local is always good. I'm on a tight budget, and the CX4 is stretching what I can spend. If only, there was a $499 9mm carbine around.

Beretta is pretty much the only game in town. No one else is there to undercut them.

Blowback rifles are easy to do, and there is probably room a ~$500 gun that's nicer than the Hi Point and cheaper than the Beretta. But I don't think there's enough PCC buyers out there to make it worthwhile.
I reckon you're completely unaware of the new offerings from CZ, SIG and LWRC. Picked up my Scorpion pistol today. Folding brace, 30rd mags and red dot sight are en route.

What's keeping you from waiting a few months, saving more pennies and getting what you really want? Settling for something less because you can get it now, versus saving towards what you really want, is usually something regretted later.

which includes serious close-in defense for home or car.

It's light, it's compact, it's highly maneuverable, it can be easily used by either hand in a pinch, it carries two spare hi-cap mags on it, and within 75 yards or so it can engage with effectiveness.
About eight years ago that's exactly why I purchased my .40, that and its still a fun gun at the range.

Mine has only the small dot & dual mag pouch added externally, one of the primary requirements was keeping it light. :)

CZ with an SBR conversion is really nice but you certainly are not talking about coming in under the price tag of the CX4 if you are looking at that option. CX4 is inexpensive in comparison.

Because they make a bajillion AR's of on type or another every 6 seconds.

The CX4 is a very good PCC but proprietary so you are paying for R&D, lower production, parts and warranty build up etc.

It's a fantastic carbine but it's a little like asking why a GT350 is so much cheaper then a Carrera S given similar performance. They make an ass ton of mustangs vs Porsches.

Wrong way to justify paying too much for something. If you feel it's worth it, that's reason enough, but exclusivity is for shallow fools. The pragmatic man pays no more than he has to for the performance he requires.

odd comment considering how many PCC's are on the market now-a-days with more and more AR based ones from various manufactures joining the game.

They wouldn't be making em if there was no market.

Did find a deal on a Just Right Carbine Gen 2, have to research what gen 2 is like since gen 3 is current

You wont find a better warranty then the Hi Point has:)

You will probably use it, but just saying...

I bought my CX4 used for $535... can't really beat that, even if you consider I needed to get a new magazine release (previous owner liked to switch it, and tore up the spring hole).

Building my D/I .45 AR, I spent $1,000 just on the upper and magazine block. $100 for a lower, $150 for a stock (got me a six pound rifle), and $75 on parts... big difference in price.

Now, I can't do a 9mm D/I AR, but a blowback AR can be in the $1,000+ range. But a traditional 9mm AR is a 5.56mm gun that is adapted to 9mm. Stuck with the standard AR magazine well, so magazines/adapter must fit. I do like my .45, as I can pull the upper/adapter, toss in a 5.56mm upper/magazine, and I'm good to go. Positives and negatives with that.

I personally like pistol caliber carbines. I like my traditional rifles, as well, but I put my CX4 and .45 AR somewhere between my 5.56mm AR and a .22. The 9mm and .45 rifles don't have the ballistics of a 5.56mm, but they can hold their own within 100 yards.

I dunno about the price difference I paid $950 for my Colt AR6951 a few years ago, before optic, light, furniture etc.:

Pistol caliber carbines, almost pointless IMO. Get an AR, it shoots a far more powerful cartridge for less money.

As for almost pointless, IF you use the PCC as a trainer it makes great sense. My 9mm AR is cheaper and easier to reload for then .223/5.56. I can use it for drills at CQB distances without tearing up my AR500 targets, it recoils more than a .22LR AR, so it's more realistic. Also by adding MV to a pistol cartridge, they're generally more effective, and definitely easier to hit with.

I looked at the CX4 and a couple other PCCs, but since my primary HD long gun is an AR, it just made sense to stay with that platform.

The factory trigger was too spongy so I replaced it with a Sierra Papa. Works great now and makes the .40S&W come alive with the 16" barrel. Wish Beretta made the CX4 in 10mm

Pragmatism can be a mask for being cheap.

The CZ Scorpion carbine is right at $1000. Right now, I'm into my Scorpion pistol for:

Pistol - $800
Folding Shockwave brace - $260
Primary Arms Advanced Micro red dot - $170
Quick detach mount - $70
Magpul MS1 sling - $57
Total - $1357

I still have to do the safety delete and gut the trigger.

Don't forget the power steering, stereo & air conditioning! :)

I have owned both the Beretta and Hi Point 9mm carbines. While there is nothing wrong with the Hi Point for plinking, it is still not a Beretta.

If Hi Point can get away with charging $300 for their carbine, then why shouldn't Beretta be allowed to charge more for their carbine? After all the Beretta allows for a no tool take down for cleaning, unlike the Hi Point and you can get it it a version so your mags will match your carry pistol if you carry either a M9 variant or PX4 Storm. Additionally you can get mags with a larger capacity than 10 rounds that actually work.

The Beretta carbines were quite a bit cheaper when they first came out, after they were out a while they raised the price on them.

I had one and sold it. Nice little rifle, but has a surprisingly sharp recoil impulse, recoiling about as hard as an AK. Not to mention the cheek slap.

One thing I cant figure out though, why on earth doesnt Beretta thread these for a silencer?

If I recall correctly, the CX4 barrel if pretty slim, not sure there's enough meat on there to thread it.
