why is every gun store employee armed?

The quasi paramilitary look down to the bloused boots I noted at one firearms venue. When I started laughing one individual took exception asking what was so funny. I replied “The Look” is to all appearances as the wacko militia booth look as encountered at some gun shows. I continued saying “I’ve seen enough and shall not return”.

I once helped out at a pawn/gun shop. I initially had my sidearm concealed, but was asked to wear it openly, as a deterrent. Many shops have "No Loaded Guns" signs simply because to trust each individual who walks in is foolish. If you are known and trusted by the staff, they may cut you slack. There's one range/shop with such a policy, but the owners have let me know that they are quite happy if I carry loaded there.

Sooooo Why is almost every fast food restaurant employee overweight???:D Might be the gun culture and wanting to fit in with the job and availability of some good deals for employees.

Reasons why

Someone mentioned that GS employees get dibs on used stuff that comes in: they do, and the employee discount makes some things irresistible...sigh

If ya use ya deal...

You should also be aware that custom gunsmiths like EGW, Novaks, Robar, XS sights and Brownells and so on offer a discount to the shop, and thus employees; oh yeah, I miss that one!

Often my owner manager would be on the point of turning down a used gun that had come in to be sold to us that he didn't think he could make any money on; until one of the employees signaled that he wanted it; shop bought it and then we bought it from the shop; often for no more than he paid for it; we also had a very lax "extended layaway" program for employees; just as long as you paid something on it...You could really get in trouble with that.

As a sidebar; notice the holsters they're carrying it in; as often as not, you have to educate about those; lifes' too short for cheap leather, and the discount helps my lifelong addiction to nice holsters...

Cheers TF

I herd about a guy walking into a GS that somehow got close to the owner and grabbed his open carried HK 9mm from behind. He tried to shoot the owner but he could not work the grip safety correctly, consequentially the GS owner pulled his back up concealed pistol and shot the guy.

Since i retired I work P/t in a gun store- dream job.

We carry not to protect the assets but to protect ourselves from those who would try to steal by force.

And because we can.

Interesting thread. Interesting sidenote to this; on tonight's episoide of CRIMINAL MINDS, a CBS crime drama, a woman disturbed by the death of her 6 year old son flips out on the anniversary and walks into a gunstore where all the clerks are armed wanting to buy a .38SP, for which she already has ammunition. The clerk shows her a gun and becomes distracted, leaving a gun he was showing her on the counter in front of her. She covertly loads it (of course, being a TV show, no one either notes there's a gun left out in the open, or, her loading it) and successfully kills four people (three of whom were armed) around her.
Yeah but if you watch the show enough you will be brainwashed into believing that:
1. LEO is here to protect you.
2. Common people do not need firearms.
3. Just trust the LEOs (FBI) they are here to help you.

What you will really learn is that all main stream entertainment has a liberal biased. Although if you look closely you will see them with the finger off the trigger during entry. They do practice fairly good gun skills.

All gun store employees are not armed. The store where I work part time has 10 employees total. Three are full time. Four of the total of 10 carry. Two open and two concealed. I carry concealed for a couple of reasons. If a robbery takes place I don't want to be a primary target because my gun is visible. I also go other places besides to and from the store on work days. Even though open carry is legal in N.C. I have always felt more comfortable carrying concealed. I just don't choose to stand out in any crowd.
