Why is full-auto so much fun?

Right behind you!!
So shooting a fully-automatic weapon is the dream of a lifetime for a lot of people around here. What makes it so exciting? Is it just because of we're told that automatics are bad and scary, or is it the actual experience of shooting the gun?

If you look forward to having this experience someday, why? What do you expect?

Some people do it just because they can.

I don't know about "dream of a lifetime", since I put enough rounds downrange with the M60/M240, M2/M85, M3A1 and M16 during my time in the military that it became downright routine.

Would I want a full auto or select fire weapon? Not really, but it makes me fume that those that are available are so expensive and you have to jump through too many infringement hoops, and due to the fact that the ones that I would really like aren't available to "peons" like me since they were made after 1986. After all, I am no more dangerous with an MP5 than I am with my present weaponry.

That is like asking someone "what makes sex enjoyable?"

If you havn't experienced either, it's rather hard to describe.

But, trust me, you'll like it.

When I was in the service, we had an annual 'mad minute' day or two where we had to expend all of last years' 'war stock' ammo so we could buy new ammo.

There was a lot of hot barrels. and faces that looked like this... :D.

Today, even if I could afford a MG, I couldn't afford to feed it... often.

I've fired a full auto twice in my life, both times mounted .50 cal.
It was an extremely visceral experience and definitely left me going :D :D :D

But I have to be honest, not something I care to own or try to feed. I honestly have a lot more fun trying to put 1-2 shots precisely where I want 'em.

Just a matter of personal style I suspect.

Full auto just doesn't seem like much to me anymore. I guess I'm spoiled or jaded or just overwhelmed by the last session many years ago on the beach in sunny southern California; Can you say "Half-Track" and "Quad Fifty" in the same sentence and not grin? I can't!:D :neener:

cause it is.
There is some quality about it that is primal, and powerful. Controling the beast type of thing don't ask or analyze enjoy.

First, it is shooting on steroids (like the finale at a fireworks display, LOTS of booms). Second, there is the whole taboo thing, as it is so rare and hated by society.
What's not to love!

I want to do it because I've never done it before. I've seen the fun that others have, and I want to "get in on that." Plus, it's something to brag about later on.

There's also the thrill of having within your control the kind of firepower that you mostly only see in movies. As a kid, my friends and I would built little "forts" out of dirt, cans, and so forth, and lace 'em with fireworks just to see how big of an explosion we could get. :p

There was also the "privelige" of driving the truck at nine years old while everyone else had to throw hay bales. Granted, it was a '72 Chevy Silverado rustbucket, and I only coasted along at 4 mph, but I was driving! :D

I guess it's the same for shooting a full-auto.

i believe i can elaborate on that analogy. shooting normal guns is like beautiful love making. you have the one that suits your fancy and you use it carefully and treat it right. For many, this is all they'll ever need.

automatics are more like a blonde porn star. and shooting an auto, more like the four letter word for sex-ing. people look at the woman and dream of such things. they dont think of how high maintenance she might be. For most, only shooting auto's occasionaly is enough to keep them satisfied.

both good in their own ways. but also different and possibly a nice change of pace from one-another.

man that was a hard analogy to do and try to keep from getting banned. and i happen to think a very good one too.

p.s. please do not cheat on your wives/gfs/guns with a full-auto porn star.

p.s. 2. i have never shot a full auto, but there is a local range that has one or two, so i'll be stopping in there sometiem when i'm feeling rich.

Not too long ago I was at an AR15.com shoot here in VA and spent time shooting an M16, .45ACP UZI, and 9mm MP5 clone. Shooting sub-guns is easy enough, but holding the muzzle of an M16 down is tougher than you think.

Trust me, full-auto is FUN, FUN, FUN!

:) :) :)

"do not cheat on your wives/gfs/guns with a full-auto porn star."

LMAO thats going into my sig!:D

It's a rush, and at the same time, I feel a historical connection to what the original users of those firearms must have felt like when they were using them; when I shot a Lewis Gun, I couldn't help but put myself in the shoes of a soldier in the trenches of WW1, when I shot a Bren, I couldn't help but put myself in the shoes of a soldier at Cassino, etc., etc.

If you havn't experienced either, it's rather hard to describe.

I've had plenty of it, and it never made me grin that much. Full-auto, that is. :) I spent a few years as infantry, carrying a SAW and shooting fifty-cals and so forth. I don't know if I'd pay to do it.

I guess it's just different strokes/folks, so maybe it really can't be explained.

A Glock 18 and a few 33rd sticks puts a bigger grin on my face than anything else I've ever tried. I enjoy shooting full auto firearms, and luckily, I get the opportunity to do so a couple times a year. They're fun, but that G18 is just an absolute _blast_!

I don't even like Glock's :what: Doesn't matter that it's impractical, or that I can't hit anything with it, or that it's expensive to feed... If I could buy one at anything approaching a reasonable price, I'd be on it, and I mean RIGHT NOW!

I'm sure it's not everyone's thing, but it sure makes me smile :)

Polite way - like the power at hand, stress-relieving experience, nessessary tactics upon specific conditions.
Nasty way - exctasy, smell of powder (which I have heard is an aphrodisiac of sorts for any gun-nut). I do like the smell

If single rounds are reaching out to touch.......wouldn't full auto be akin to full blown, ravaging fondling (dare I say rape)????

My club has a full auto shoot twice a year. :)

I try to limit myself to $100 per event. Most everything has been there for rent. Usually $10-$20 per stick. I think I've tried everything German including a full auto broomhandle. Most of the US Military stuff, full auto Glocks in 9mm and .40. SteyrAugs, HK's and others that I fail to remember.

My favorite and the one I would like to own if not for the inflated prices and NFA stuff is a PPSh41. The way most fun at a reasonable price.
