Anyone wonder why HK just can't seem to put HIGH sights on ALL their pistols with threaded barrels? I might buy one if they did. With FN, SIG, and some others coming with sights high enough to see over suppressors, what is HK's problem?

Its not that big an issue, you are supposed to focus on the front sight and align the rear notch blur with the target blur using the sharp image of the front sight as a "fulcrum". Taller sights "solve" the problem of the suppressor blocking some of the target, but interfere with many holsters when unsuppressed, and offer extra opportunity to "snag".

I though the standard Glock sights would be a problem when I got my Storm Lake threaded barrel, but being hot to shoot it, I went the plate rack and found the "blockage" by the suppressor was of no practical consequence, so I never bothered ordering "suppressor sights".

If you were shooting 2700 bullseye suppressed I could see how it might be a problem, but would this even be allowed within the rules?

If you really like the pistol buy it, if you find you can't deal with the sights you can get them changed afterwards, but my experience suggests there is a good chance you that won't have to.

Building what people want and charging a reasonable price for it isn't H&K's business model.

Good post Wally, I agree.

I thought suppressed guns were used at close range?

How do you define close? If it is less than 1000 yards I agree. I shoot my 223 with a silencer/suppressor to 500 yards regularly. Although with ammo prices not a regular as I would like.

I wonder how many threaded factory barrels ever see a suppressor?
I can see all kinds of problems with standard holsters and the high sights but given the cost of an additional set of high irons or plastics as the case may be it's hard to excuse them not throwing in a set and adding what little there might be along with the cost of the barrel.

How many folks will pay a bit extra for a threaded barrel and not plan to put a suppressor on it?

I know I could care less about threads on a pistol barrel until I started shooting suppressed.

Try the standard sights with a suppressor, its far less of a problem than I'd expected, bordering on being a non-issue shooting steel plates at 10-15 yards.

Wally, I only presented that question because I see quite a few more barrels threaded than I do suppressors attached. Now I understand that the two will not always be connected but I also understand the cool/tactical factor that is present in some of todays gun buyers. If this weren't true there wouldn't be the popularity of the fake suppressors. I suppose there is also the "I'll get one someday" effect. Either way I bet there is a fair number of barrels that never see the real thing attached.
The holster issue is valid as well.

The holsters I buy and use are made around the guns they are intended for. High sights do not present a problem to makers like Sparks, Blade Tech, or Kramer. Guns with threaded barrels, intended to utilize suppressors, NEED sights that enable the shooter to SEE the target AND the sights. I have superimposed lower sights, and had good results, but I would not want to rely only on sights obstructed by the suppressor.

My experience is the opposite. I have a rimfire 1911, with a .290" front sight, that wont fit in any of the holsters I own.

Suppressor sights are, in my opinion, a marketing gimmick that companies use to charge you $200 more than the normal price you'd pay for a pistol. On most pistols, you can use standard sights with a suppressor, no problem.

"...what is HK's problem..." They don't have a problem selling everything they make. The vast majority of their stuff has nothing to do with NFA kit. So they very likely don't care.

They may actually sell all that they intend to here. But, when you are happy to sell a LOT less guns than any of your competition, i.e. Glock, S&W, Ruger, SIG, Colt, etc, and you don't give a damn about how poor your service department's reputation is, then you can probably identify with HK. That was my point. Personally, I am not impressed. There IS better out there.

If HK's CS is worse than the other manufacturers you listed, it's only because those get so much more practice.

In all seriousness, the vast majority of people who bitch and moan about HK customer service have absolutely no actual experience with them.

Can't believe this hasn't been posted yet........

I can't believe people are still posting it.

I've owned two HK91's, two PSP's, an SL7 .308, and a USP Match .45. My brother has had about 5 Hk-91's, an MP5, and several Benelli/HK shotguns. A mutual friend has carried a P7M13 for most of his police career, but has had to deal with repairs directly, as it his personal gun. We know just how handy HK service can be when you need parts or repair.

Probably not sub-sonic though. I've got a friend with a very quiet .308. He says it's a 50 yard rifle.

I've no experience with their repair, but they were very helpful at getting me the right parts for my "old" USP DAO to convert to LEM trigger with a quick phone call.

I lean to the HK is over-rated school of thought, but they treated me right.

If you are having a problem with your precision example of superior Prussian engineering, it is because YOU are the problem! If the sights do not work with your suppressor, it is your eyes that need fixing!

"because we're H&K and you suck" Anyone who has dealt with CS at HK should remember that.
