I just got a Taurus tx 22 and love it. Then I got my father to shoot. And he said the same. He asked why don't they have a 22 mag like this.

Why don't any gun company make a semi auto 22 mag that could be carried like the Taurus tx22?

If ones out there please let me know.

Honestly, probably not much demand. Rimfires are statistically more prone to misfires, plus the length of 22 mag requires the grip to be a good bit bigger front to back than 380, which would be the next step up generally speaking.

KelTec makes a 22 Mag handgun but it isn't all that concealable. Doable, but not really designed to be concealed.

The PMR 30 and the big brother CMR30 are just about the most fun you can have by pulling a trigger.

It gives you a good reason to buy a revolver.

For a start, .22 WMR is a costly round. But more importantly, one cannot just make a simple blowback pistol in .22 WMR - the case is too thin and that brings quite a few problems. You need a delayed blowback system for that, or a locked breach one and not everyone is willing to invest in such design for a cheap plinker, shooting an expensive round with unimpressive ballistics.

The tx22 is about the same size as a Glock 19
Most people would rather defend themself with 9mm than 22 (me included).

Most people likely think centerfire ammo more reliable than rimfire (me too).

RIA makes one, a full size 1911 look alike. It is very ammo finicky. I have given serious thought to trading it off although I like to shoot it when I can find the ammo it likes. The trouble is ammo for it costs more than some 9 mm. For that price you get as much or more noise but less whop.

The current production Keltec has had good report but I have never messed with one. I would not call it concealable. AMT made one years ago that I never heard anything good about.

A lot of those things from AMT or any flavor of the AMT company always comes with a big question mark.

As to the 22mag I really like that round, however like others said shooting it is like shooting centerfire price.

I have several KelTecs including a PMR 30. After a break-in period and a learning curve on loading the magazines with the recommended ammunition, it has functioned reliably. I carry it working outdoors around the place. DRT on ground squirrels. A different shape but not larger than a 1911 and much lighter. I can conceal either with the appropriate clothes.

It does make sense in those tiny 4 and maybe now 5 shot revolvers, but not a semiauto. I think that those little revolvers come with conversion cylinders.

I think you're talking about the NAA revolvers. Yeah, some of those are chambered in .22 mag.

If I remember correctly, short barreled NAA revolvers in .22 WMR showed some mighty unimpressive ballistics - just marginally better than the .22 LR variants.

I ran across some 22WMR in Academy the other day. $22 a box. Right below it was the same number of 9 mm for $28.

While it can be done, you are fighting a rimmed cartridge in a magazine the whole way. Which probably puts most manufacturers off of trying.

I used to have a 9 shot High Standard revolver in 22mag, wish I'd kept it.

The Grendel p30 was the predecessor to the pmr30. Kelgren owned both companies. I have both.

true, but the muzzle blast at bad breath distances in the face are not ineffective.
1 1/8 inch barrel https://northamericanarms.com/ballistics/ball-bwm/ With two in barrel the black widow if i got it right has a bit more velocity.
    upload_2022-5-17_20-1-56.png
With black widow the ballistics are much better.

I once seen an automatic 22 mag made by Sig I think it was called a Mosquito and the guy selling it said it was rare so I don't think it was made long. If you want a .22 mag handgun a revolver is the way to go I'd say.
