I have never been a huge fan of .22 caliber semi auto pistols but a friend pointed out that they are great for practicing shooting stance and techniques. Which matters to me as I am cross eye dominant and I wear bifocals. Not much recoil and the ammo is dirt cheap.
So I have been reading a lot about the Taurus TX22 as well as the new TX 22 Compact.
Now some will say get the Ruger but I would rather have one that looks like the 9 mm that I shoot which the Taurus does as opposed to the Ruger which looks more like a Luger.
Do any of you shoot the TX22 or the new TX22 Compact ? What do you think?

Go luck with your search. I have never shot or handled the Taurus TX22, but have heard a lot of good about them. Most of what I hear about Taurus polymer pistols is positive. Taurus has stepped up their game and producing some inexpensive pistols with decent quality.

Have both, well 3 of them as I bought a competition slide for full size one too. I prefer the compact. Not much smaller but seems way lighter in hand.

First one I had leading in barrel bought new barrel for 40 bills and gtg. Instead of retyping here ya go.

Since then I pretty much have been using all automatch with same results. I got 4 more mags from Taurus and a loaded made by lakeline I really like.

I have 6 mags loaded up right now and I kinda close out my range time shooting all of them at my plates and don't expect a failure.

Just shot minutes ago the 6 mags (78) not a failure. Some triple tap at closer plates some single at further ones. Haven't lubed in a few hundred rounds.

Funny thing, so am I, but I wasn't always this way. I was right side dominant all my life until September 2020, when I got this super wicked viral eye infection. The infection lasted about a month, but my eye had been so badly damaged that it remained blurry for about a year.

So when I finally went shooting after that whole ordeal, I realized I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. Randomly decided to switch eyes and bam, I was able to finally got something.

Anyways, my grandad has one and he seems to thoroughly enjoy it. He's never offered to let me try it, so I just assume it's his precious.

I bought a TX22 a few years ago and it went through thousands of rounds (at least 12k) and then one day..the front of the slide snapped. I called Taurus, they fixed it under warranty. I purchased the competition upper at the same time, been shooting that ever since. I also bought the compact, and the compact is my favorite of all of them. It shoots great, and accepts a micro dot. Actually thinking about it, my TX compact hasn't malfunctioned once so far and it's through at least 2k rounds.

TX22 = Winner. I liked the first one so much I bought a second. They work with ammunition that some .22's don't handle. My first went 2011 rounds without a malfunction. I don't have any experience with the Compact although I hear good things. They work with a Banish Suppressor and CCI Quiet Semi Auto reliably too. TX22 (2).JPG

Bought a TX-22 a couple years back and have probably 2000 rounds down the pipe. The only problem I ever encountered with it is, when a mag gets dirty enough, it does not lock the slide back on the last round (guess I ought to have a maintenance schedule); the other problem is with SWMBO, who claimed it for her own and, now, I need to go buy another one.

I've had 2, but I sold the first one to a friend. My second one is the Competition Model. Both are fantastic guns. I highly recommend either version.

I have nothing but good things to say about the one I purchased, the full sized model. Its been nothing but reliable and accurate with just about any cheap bulk ammo I put through it. I have several thousand rounds through it, and can say the only malfunctions I had were ammo related, a dud round here and there and a spent casing got stuck one time. Pretty good for a 250 rimfire handgun out of maybe 5k rounds. I will be buying another one as soon I as wipe a couple of other things off my list

Thanks to all. I will be getting the Compact as soon as it becomes available at my local gun outlets. I'm so over Gun Broker. I won't bore you with my GB
horror stories. Also the Sig Sauer P365 is next on my gun buying budget. So that should work out fine.

I haven't bought one yet, but I did get to shoot a friend's. Very nice gun for the money. (As are all Taurus models) I have a Gx4, so I will be buying a TX-22 Compact as soon as I can find one locally.

The Compact must be selling like hot cakes. The local stores can't keep them in stock.

I really wanted to dislike this firearm because I got screwed by Taurus from the recall a few years ago. Sent my PT145 in and they replaced it with a cheap 9mm. TX22 is fantastic. I shoot the cheapest 22LR ammo I can find and have NEVER had a single issue. Very accurate. I’m even impressed with the sights. Kudos to Taurus for this one.

And the 2 included 10-round magazines are easy enough to convert to 16-rounders

Those mags are for certain states. Somehow they got shipped everywhere. You can actually convert the mags to 21-rounders if you are so inclined. Tandemkross makes a kit.

I've got the competition SCR (steel challenge ready) and the plain stock one. They serve the intended purpose well and I've got less in the 2 combined than either of the Ruger MK's in the safe. Handle any ammo I've put in them and they both came with 16 round mags. The mag loader is supposed to be a life (or at least thumb) saver, but I never use it. 20230226_103021.jpg
I did buy the Lakeline recoil spring/guiderod assy as a preventative measure. For the $750 total I have in the pair, I couldn't be happier.

Mine is as good as other makes have been, except it's very fussy about how I load the mag. You can look at the bullets in the mag and see that they are staggered, if they are not then you get a FTF. Rapping the loaded mag on your palm will realign them. CCI's have been best. An old box of Rem gold hp worked almost as good, about 300 rds. When I opened a new box I had more FTFeed and misfires. It shoots better than I do. A 50 foot target, off hand and on a good day for me,

I still read about a fair number of barrel problems with the TX22 though considering the amount sold I am sure it is a small percentage of owners. The slide end breaking off has been fixed with a re designed recoil spring assembly. I have not heard of barrel problems with the TX22 Competition that has the bull barrel. People say it feels much like griping an HK VP9 which is a good thing. Taurus does take care of the owners barrel problem eventually though as some have reported long waits and some just order an extra barrel when in stock to keep on hand as they are not expensive.

The thumb control would be easier. I only see one with quick Google. Will it do tx and ruger mark mags too.

I looked at it again and a loader that pushes the follower or next shell down I don't think is a good idea. Pushing the buttons down allows the rounds to be stacked correctly easier.
