I have owned an 870, and 870 Wingmaster, Win SX3, Beretta SP, Mossberg 500 and a M1 Super 90 before the new SV.
The other guns have been fine...I do not like the SX3 much and the 500 feels cheap. The Benelli's are hands down the best that I have shot.

I have found the Super 90 (2004-2011) to have worked FLAWLESS. Not one jam or FTF. I have several other close friends/family that have a Super Nova and a SBE with NO issues.

SO, why is there so much hate or lack of appreciation of the Benelli guns?

Is it a plastic thing?
Is it a look thing?

Fill me in guys.

Thanks

Karbon

I have an old Benelli Black Eagle Competition with 2 barrels (28-in and 18-in; imported by HK years ago). I've put thousands of rounds through it (could be up to tens of thoursands; lost count already) and did not have any issues.

Bought an HK Fabarm one time and had tons of issues with it. Will never buy one with gas operated system again.

The only thing I don't like about the Benelli is that the gun does not fit me. Some how all the hunting guns and/or semi-auto shotguns I've seen have smaller profiles. Now I shoot with over/unders but I still keep the Benelli cause it's the most reliable semi-auto I have and using it as a home defense gun (with 18-in barrel of course) and will let my children shoot it when they grow older.

I have a montefeltro

I could not be happier, my brother was going to trade it in and got offered $500.00 bucks for it, and was sorely disappointed with that offer. So he told me if I gave him 500 bucks it was mine. I never looked back I just shoot it as often as I can.
I also own two Mossberg 500 shotguns in different configurations but man do I love my Benelli

I can not speak for others, but I prefer American made guns,

and without synthetic stocks with an all-black finish. I prefer Blued steel and walnut stocks and do not own any guns that are not made that way. I am certain the new guns are better made and will last longer with rougher treatment but at age 71, I have never gotten used to them. Most of my shotguns are between 35-55 years old and are Remington 870 wingmasters, Winchesters model 12, and 1300, Ithaca model 37, my favorite, and Automatics- Winchester , Browning Gold and Remington 1100, and some old Winchester double barrel guns and single shots. All blued and Walnut stocks. Snoop

I understand to a point the "look" of the gun and how some do not like the Benelli look.
As well, I would CLEARLY like to be 100% comfortable with a reliable Made in the USA gun, but the Benelli has worked and fit better than the Remmy and SX3.

Just trying to get any solid reasons as to why some hate the Benelli auto loaders.
Materials used?
Function issues?
Design flaws?

I personally love the design of the IDrive over any gas system auto loader, and I have no desire to throw in pump vs. auto in this disscussion.

Thanks guys!

I love Benelli's, but their pricing department apparently hit a home run right through the field goal for a hole in one. Seriously, I could buy 3 nice semi-autos or 5-8 really nice pumps for the price of an M4. The M1,M2, and Super 90 all suffer the same problem. Pay off your car or buy a gun for the bragging rights.

Too much money for me, I don't hate Benneli and I'd love to have a m4 super 90 but I'm not gonna pay $1,500 for a semi-auto shotgun.

I group them in with H&K, they make nice but ridiculously over priced guns.

I really can't get used to the all synthetic stock thing. I have a Nova that is my loaner gun for friends and family that come to the range and go hunting with me. It is a great gun, no doubt about it, has never jammed or failed to fire, 100% reliable so far, but I don't like carrying it or shooting it. I love my old Ithaca 37s and Winchester model 12s, and for the record I have not had problems with them either. To each their own, find what works for you and makes you happy and go with it, if we all liked the same guns, knives, trucks, and beer the world would be a very boring place.

"SO, why is there so much hate or lack of appreciation of the Benelli guns?"

I never noticed this.

Fwiw, I've had an 1100 and an SX-2 Waterfowl that have been flawless. I've seen up to 6 SBE's at a time on the used rack at a local shop and wondered why. They felt good in the store, but did seem a little light for shooting a bunch of heavy goose loads, so maybe that's why they were there.

Oh, and I have a Win SX-1 that's also been flawless.

I just don't like inertia actioned guns, be they Benellis or the clones. I don't like long recoil actions either. I have no qualms with Benelli's reliability claims, with the right loads, but I do think they charge a bunch more than they need to for such a simple action and are merely capitalizing on their self-created mystique - not that I can really blame them. They could teach marketing to P.T. Barnum.

I've heard essentially nothing but good, save perhaps price.. but that's the way it goes.. you makes your choice and pays your money. Love me the M-1 Super.

Buy used. I own 2 M-1's bought used. Paid $600 for the first one and $700 for the 2nd. The 2nd was only 1 year old at the time and came with a surefire mag tube, spring and oversize safety button. Some guy bought it, hunted with it 1 year before the M-2 was introduced. He sold it to me because he wanted the newer M-2.

I've used many others before buying Benelli. Remington 1100, 1187, Mossberg 9200, Stoeger 2000, Beretta AL 390, Remington 870, Mossberg 500, Benelli Nova, Browning BPS, as well as several budget and mid priced doubles.

Of those I like the 870 well enough and the Beretta 390 series is a strong contender. The others I have no interest in going back to. If I shot a lot of clays I'd probaby prefer the softer shooting Beretta, but as a hunter I like the lighter weight and the simplicity of the Benelli.

If my house burned down tonight and I lost everything I'd not blink at paying full price for a replacement Benelli. Not bragging for rights, they are just that much better.

I had a couple of goose hunt ending failures with the SBE I owned so I got rid of it and went back to the older Remington products that I had abandoned to own a benelli. I doubt I will ever own another benelli product. "Twice bitten, Once shy" so to speak.

WHO doesn't love Benelli's?!?! :fire:

I lusted after one of these for TWENTY YEARS... before I FINALLY got it!

It won't be pried from me, until my fingers are cold & dead around it! :neener:

Karbon. so far I've tried out maybe 5 SBEs, a Montefeltro, a Cordoba 20, and maybe others. I haven't kept track.

I've liked them all. That Cordoba redefines the term, "Dove Gun". Benellis are reliable, durable, and adjustable. The triggers need some tweaking, IMO, but there's plenty of happy owners out there that do not mind heavy, mushy pulls.

However......

The 5 870s here cost in aggregate about what a SBEII would. The 870s are even more reliable, durable, adjustable and have better triggers.

They also function with a wider spectrum of ammo levels.

And they're made here in the US.

I bought a new M1 Super Black Eagle a few years ago to retire my Browning A5 as a Turkey gun.

One season with the Benelli kicking the crap out of me.
And me getting confused in the dark with the "magazine cut-off flipper bill" thing and getting a click instead of a bang on a big tom, twice?

I sold it and went back to the Browning A-5.

The old Light-12 on it's worst day never kicked as hard as that Benelli.
And even a cave man can operate the A5's magazine cut-off in the dark to cross fences and set up decoys.

I have never seen anyone bashing Benelli's here on THR as far as being bad shotguns.....in fact, when asked about a good defensive shotgun Benelli's are always mentioned...

Other people beat me to it.

In a shotgun I like wood hardware, although the Benallis are starting to visually appeal to me with the carbon print. I like the Cordoba, but the pricing is crazy high.

I was reading a lot on the vinci and SBE and saw several posts negative to the guns. I am still very pleased with them...

Yes, but the Vinci is ugly.
I don't care who ya are. :D

That's why they aren't selling as well as expected, and hold low resale value!
