A lot of people prefer SAO. Im not bashing SAO, i really like 1911s. What im wondering is why people buy DAO on pistols that come DA/SA. Ive seen sigs, HKs, ect, offered SAO. I see DA/SA pistols with manual safetys that people carry cocked and locked for some reason. I think DA/SA is good since you get a quicker first shot and dont deeal with a frustrating safety. I want to know if theres any advantage to SAO pistols, and why someone would carry da/sa psitol cocked and locked?

For an undoubtedly far superior first shot SA trigger pull, which is a great aid to accuracy.

Transiting from the long heavy DA first shot, to the much shorter & lighter following SA shots leaves a lot of folks missing completely with the first shot.

i like single action triggers, but the DAK system doesnt bother me. I want a DA/SA so i dont need to worry about a safety, draw and fire, and after first shot a smooth trigger. releasing a safety under pressure doesnt seem great to me, just one more thing to go wrong.

I've never understood this objection. If you carry a pistol like a 1911, Hi Power (with modern extended safety levers), or CZ-75 (carried in condition 1) the safety is absolutely perfectly placed to wipe right off during the draw stroke. The arc of motion described by the lever is exactly the same as that described by the thumb. You just train yourself to wipe the thumb of your shooting hand downward as you take the proper grip on the gun and bring the gun up out of the holster to presentation level. Practice this a while (you should always perform 3000+ repetitions of a motion to commit it to muscle memory -- and this is something you should do with your draw anyway, regardless of what type of gun you carry, in order to perform it smoothly under stress if called upon to do so), and it will become completely automatic and will be done without any conscious thought. Then you CAN'T forget it.

Really, it's not a problem.

I use a thumbstrap leather holster with my 1911, and it's a very simple, fluid, one-step motion to both break the snap and swipe the safety off with your thumb as you draw. Never been an issue for me.

Because I grew up with single actions and that is all I shoot. Don't care for DAO. 'Nuff said! :p

Trigger and speed

Whether its striker fired, DAO or DA/SA it's usually compared to a tuned 1911-type trigger to judge its worth.

gotta ask you k9870... ever fired a brand new HK trigger that was da/sa ? my SA shots cluster very well at 25 yards... my DA .. let's just say they don't hit at 25 yards.. so cocked'n locked b/c the DA simply won't hit jack even if i can get it out faster

On the other hand, I shoot my sig DA nearly as well as the SA..

people hit targets just fine with revolvers........how does everyone miss on a da semiautopull....by the way ill never get an hk, i like customer service
