Why SOB carry is a bad idea.

I didn't say you have to be riding a bicycle to fall on your damn gun!
:banghead:

And your logic.....that's like saying "Well, I my parents didn't put me in a carseat, and I lived....why should I use one for my kids?"
Sorry to tell you, a gunfight isn't going to be like on TV. You're not going to face off with a badguy in the middle of the street at 20 paces. No, some crackhead is going to come at you with a knife. Someone in a fast food joint is going to get mad because you bumped into them. It might come to blows before it comes to shots. And there you are, lying on your back, in serious pain because you landed on your gun, and now you're laying on your gun when you need it the most.
good luck with that.
I'm sorry I started this thread. Some of you are pretty stubborn.

We are not stubborn at least no more than the anyone else if you know what I mean. I understand your logic perfectly well, you seemed to be upset because we all don't jump to your side of the fence. I happen to disagree that is all and was having a little fun with it.
As for logic how about this "Just because you fell on your gun doesn't mean I will!":neener:
I am not trying to convert you to SOB carry, I respect your opinion but I also believe you can be knocked down on your front, side, back and land on your gun wherever you carry. A good hip bone bruise or break can be as debilitating if not worse than a tailbone bruise or break. Some of us are older and worry more about breaking a hip than a tailbone. Falling on your side can pin your gun to the ground. As you said a gunfight is not like TV, you never know what is going to happen.
You opinion is valued please don't regret posting just because someone has another opinion

If the coat's not an option, and the shoulder isn't an option, and SOB is dangerous, then I think you really do need to think about an on-bike solution. Yes you could get separated from it if pushed hard enough, but nothing's perfect. I'd suggest a handlebar bag out front for quickest access, and if you're really worried about not having it when you fall you could hook your wrist to a lanyard.

It seems that some of you are talking about carrying IWB located at the SOB. I thought this discussion was about true SOB holsters
Inside... outside... same difference. Both are less accessible for some people. Both leave the firearm completely invisible to the wearer, who may not be aware that his shirt rode up and his gun is now in plain view to the whole world. Both place a big chunk of metal right over the spine, and may get JamisJockey's spandex shorts in a bunch.

I've dealt with quite a few folks with lower back injuries through my work... their experiences lead me to the decision that I'd much rather risk a broken hip by carrying on the strong side, than permanent spinal cord damage by SOB carry.

Of course, Your Mileage May Vary.

Blind corners. Woods. Oh, and it was a night ride. Oh, and think about ambushes nitwit.
Thanks buddy. Maybe if your worried about "ambush" you should just wear armor or maybe hire a bodyguard. Sheesh.

I'm not aware of any inside the waistband holsters with the same sideways\upside down cant of a true SOB style holster. This method of carry provides for an extremely smooth, fast draw that minimizes pant\belt movement.

Obviously no method of concealment is perfect, and an SOB holster needs to be concealed, as it is the absolute most vulnerable to snatching, as you have no real ability to retain your weapon.

All those things considered, it's what I'm wearing right now to walk the dog. ;)

When I ride my mountain bike, I wear cargo shorts... but then again the old lady and I aren't rideing all that fast and I'm only carring a knife. But my XD fits in the pocket, I don't think that's a realistic place for a gun. If you're one of those spandex guys... I wonder how uncomfortable a 12'oclock carry would be on a smaller pistol. I don't carry strait down the front, since I don't have kids yet ;)

If the Army can mount M249 SAW's on 4-Wheelers, I'd say a sporting pistol like an Uzi or Mac-10 type of weapon would be perfect for a mountain bike. Never know when you'll run accross; A bear, high on PCP, wearing body armor, who is attempting to rape & rob you!

Most bear rapes go unreported. It's an embarassing thing, being made a forest bride. :uhoh:
