Why would I want a .410

I shoot 3 ea. 410's. A Remington pump. A Yiliz O/U an a Tristar Viper G2. I shoot quail/doves/skeet and rabbits with these. I find my score/bag limits not much different than with the bigger guages. I also reload both 2 1/2" & 3" with my homemade #8's. Which brings my cost or a box of 410 shells to about $3.25.

I'm some combination of too-practical, -cheap and/or -poor for a .410! I'm not much hunting nowadays so the only real use I have for a shottie is bear defense in camp, home defense and plinking/training. A 12ga is much better for most of those and especially for Grizzlies. And I don't have the budget to collect a bunch of shotguns. And for lots of reasons I'm trying to consolidate around as few calibers as is practical. Living in SW Montana if a person is gonna just have one then a 12ga is a lot more practical.

Of course, a person with different resources and requirements might make different choices, and I can't fault anyone for that.

About turkey hunting with a .410. Hevi-shot makes it totally feasible. My grandson was hunting with one of his friends who has a bolt action .410 set up with a red dot and shoots #8 hevi shot. Supposed to be deadly out to and even beyond 60 yards. They're becoming a go to thing for the fully addicted turkey hunters - shells are like $10.00 a shot.

We used Winchester Super X #6 shot 3" shells successfully for turkey when I was a kid.

My first gun was a 410. That was 65 years ago and I've hardly been without one since. Dang good small game gun. Fun to shoot. If it were me and I thought I need a 12, 16, 20 or whatever gauge. I would go buy me one and keep it right next to my 410. And I do.
