I was hopping for joy when the mail came on Saturday and her CHL came in the mail. I guess I was disappointed that she was more happy about the title to her freshly paid off car that came...

Now to train her to actually carry one with her!

On a side note, we both put in for ours together, mine a renewal, her a new app on the same day. Mine has not shown up yet. I would have been sure that a renewal would have taken less time than a new issue!?

I need to find her one of those cool little gun purses now...

Congrats to your wife! I know you will feel safer with her armed. You should have recieved your CHL by now. I called Austin at 60 days and they found my app. stashed on someones desk. They "pushed" it through and I got it at 88 days. Renewal time is only 45 days. I would rethink purse carry. Had a lady contact me after her purse was stolen off her shoulder with her gun in it. It would be better if she had it on her.

Good for her! Now make sure she uses it. I was talking to a young lady recently who told me she had a carry permit. When I asked her what she was carrying she told me that her gun was at home, she only carried it when she thought she might need it. (Facepalm)

If she does the gun-purse thing, she'll have to change her habits. A gun across the room is pretty useless, and most women don't have their purses on them at all times. You're also in it if her purse ever gets stolen. If her lifestyle/job has her wear clothes that allow her to use an OWB holster, that would be a lot better. Most companies make specially designed holsters for women that are shaped to fit a women's body better.

Being debt-free is just as important to being self-reliant as being armed, just in a different arena.
Don't discount the importance of getting a debt paid off.

That being said, take that lady to a rental range, or amass a pile of friends' and your own guns, and figure out what she likes shooting, then figure out what to arm her with.
Nobody (particularly women) likes to pack a gun they don't enjoy shooting, it is a confidence issue, mostly. Better to arm her with a little popgun she will actually use than something she hates shooting and will never utilize under stress.

How long did it take?
A lady friend is waiting for hers.

Back in Janurary my 4th renewal took 4.5 months.
