I picked up a Mosin 91/30 today. I really am looking forward to shooting it tomorrow. I'll give a range report then. My wife said this is it and asked if I'm now happy with all the guns I have. :D
The Mosin is in excellent shape. I do need to put some rounds through it to blow out the barrel. I hope it is as accurate as I hope it will be.

How many purses does she have? How many pairs of black pumps? How many....you get the picture ;) It might be time to start sneaking stuff into the house to avoid the inquisition :scrutiny:

My wife says the same thing every time. One possible solution; Get rid of the wife and buy another rifle. They (rifles) are cheaper and last longer.

Re: Duckster

Does your wife shoot with you? And is there a serious reason that she does not want you to collect anymore or is it a RED TIDE sort of thing that when the squall is over all is well? I would take another angle and try and get her to shoot more.

To So Cal Shooter

No, my wife does not shoot, but I keep hoping. I take my daughters all the time to the range. They can't get enough of it. I keep inviting her, but there are always excuses. I think the problem is she has an uncle whom has lots and lots of guns. She swore she would never marry a guy with short hair, in the military and had guns. She blew it on all counts. I guess you can't help who you fall in love with.
I don't like the idea of hiding anything from her. I always get caught anyway. Women are like that.
My daughters have become excellent shooters. I've been having them shoot since the were eight and nine. By the way, my girls like the big gun daddy got. One asked if she could shoot it:) .

Man, you're gonna miss her huh?

Seriously, my wife is cool with me buying guns. It is what she uses to rationalize her own spending sprees... Everytime I buy a gun, she racks up some bills.

It keeps us both in check, and still allows me to spend as much as I would like (as long as I can handle her spending just as much $$$).

I just try to walk the new purchases in while she's gone.
Then she see's the new one days/months/years later and asks how long have you had that one?
A simple reply is I've had this one for a long time just never get to shoot it.

Negotiate a deal you can live with. I have an agreement with the Mrs. that I will not buy more firearms than I can fit in my 12-gun safe. Do you have any idea how many guns fit in one of those? A lot more than 12! But she feels good about it, and I don't have a real issue with keeping my collection to 25-30 firearms.

Mine doesn't mind the guns. I only have one rule when we go to a show ... "buy whatever you want, just make sure the bills get paid" :barf: that usually stops me and makes me turn around :uhoh:

Try this one, guys: every time you buy a rifle, hand her as much cash as you spent on the rifle, for her to spend on her hobbies.

Guarantee you she'll shut up about it ... and urge you to get another rifle as soon as possible. ;)

(And if you can't afford to spend as much on her hobbies as you do on yours, well, she might be right when she says don't buy another...)

pax,

Thats a darn good idea and one I implemented along time ago. Then she decided as long as everyone was fed and warm I could buy what I wanted (she became a stay at home mom). She understands I sacrifice quite a bit to keep her at home so she forgives me on the gun issue.

Recently she GAVE me her walk-in closet for a gun room. Took 1 day to build rifle racks all the way around the walls and get move in.......she impressed me that day.

Sounds familiar...all too familiar...

I've been married for not quite a year now, so I'm new to the game. My wife (then fiance) was pretty cool about me and my very modest gun collection before we got married, but seems to tolerate my gun habit less and less every day. And it's not like I spend a lot...I've bought 3 CHEAP guns (not bad, just inexpensive) in the last year and she thinks it's overindulgence...of course, my reloading habit may contribute to that feeling (although most of my reloading stuff came from gift certificates to Midway my family gave me for birthdays/holidays).

So, lately, I've been thinking about some items that have been showing up around our house that I don't recall authorizing...not that I'm an authority, but you know what I mean. Seems she buys lots of stuff she wants and says it's for 'us'...except I have no interest at all. Digital scales that measure body fat, bone mass density, IQ, blah blah blah...1247 different kinds of carpet scent powder...dishes in addition to the 3 sets we've still never used...food that neither of us like (that rotts and goes completely to waste)...2987 different kinds of bubble bath (yeah, she likes smelly things)...dozens of CDs that she never listens to...etc etc...you get the idea. And she never asked me about any of this stuff.

Well, I decided that it was time to quit feeling guilty for spending some money on some things I've been wanting, that I WILL use and WILL NOT go to waste.

So, please...BUY GUNS! Enjoy yourself! Take pleasure in your freedom to own firearms just in case we are less free to enjoy them in the future...last time I checked there were no organizations that will ever try to prevent our wives from enjoying purses and shoes in the future.

People wonder why I prefer my guns to a potential wife. My guns don't get upset when I add to the family :D

Also guns don't get upset when you spend time with someone else

I feel lucky....

My wife got me a converted Saiga 308 for Christmas, and broke down and told me she is getting me another Glock 19 for my birthday. She volunteered her dad's tool shop for building an AK just this week.

Hell, she even listens to all the gun crap I talk about all the time and watches "Guns of the World" every Sunday morning on The History Channel.

I love that woman. :D
