My wife fell in love with the Bersa Thunder 380. I don't know much about that particular firearm. What experiences have you had?

I am new to the forum so if this is a question that has been beaten too death, please excuse me

Heh.

Your wife wants a gun. the first response from a proper gunny would be to say OK, drag her to a shop that has it, have her buy it and go shooting with her.

As for the quality of Bersa guns ... I had a non two-tone and loved it. the only problem was that .380 was uber expensive during the shortage. OH yeah, and I removed the magazine safety, so I could dry fire.

The Bersa is a great shooter - very low priced and utterly reliable. The 380 is also a "decent" round for self defense using the right ammo. Being a semiauto pistol, any shooter should be able to rack the slide easily and learn how to "tap and rack" if it is to be used as a self defense weapon.

My 11 year old girl shoots our Bersa 380 very easily and accurately.

The Bersa is great, especially for what they charge for them. I always found then a little heavy for their size. Still, that might not be a issue for some folks.

Have had one for 7 years. Reliable, well built, easy takedown for cleaning and affordable. Bersa Thunder .380, what's not to like? My wife loves it and decided it's hers now so I carry a DS...oh well the sacrifices we men must make to keep the little woman happy :)

My wife has the Bersa Thunder 380 cc model. It is a great little shooter. The weight handles the recoil well.

Easy Pistol To Love...

Price is excellent!!!

Very Acurate!!!

Better Than Average Trigger!!!

Mine Has shot everything I've fed it!!!

CT has a laser for it!!!

Most good holster makers have a leather or kydex version for it!!!

Comes in plain or a little bling!!!

This was my first cc option & mostly still resides within arms reach at bedside. It makes at least 75% of my range trips with me as it is fun to shoot & makes me look like a decent shot no matter what kind of day I am having. My version is the Lipseys special edition with CT laser shown with a shark skin iwb by UBG holsters.

My Fiance is on her second pistol. We originally got a Bersa 9mm Ultra-Compact and it was a great shooter. This was off the cuff and second time around we did the rental thing. Let her pick! Shoot a ton of different ones and maybe look hard at a 9mm due to ammo cost.

In the end the XD she like best and got that one.

I have the Duotone Bersa .380. I got it from a THR member. I didn't really want it, but it came in a package deal with an LCP and a few other items. I am really impressed.

It not only looks good and feels good, but it is very accurate and reliable. Besides a couple of bad primers on my reloads, the pistol has never had any trouble and I associate those mishaps due to the ammo and not the pistol.

Excellent pistol and a very attractive price. It's one of those rare instances when good quality does not equal a high price.

While I don't have a Bersa .380, I do have a Bersa Thunder 9 UC Pro. This is my main "truck gun" and is always within reach while I'm in it. A friend of mine however, does own the .380 and uses it as his daily carry. I was inclined to purchase my Bersa in part due to his, and another friend of mine recommendations. The other guy has a .45 model but. he never has said which one.

In over one thousand rounds, I haven't had a single malfunction of any sort. Super easy to take down and super easy controls. The only complaint I have about the pistol at all, is the trigger, and the non ability to do any kind of modifications to it. Other than that, I think Bersa is a highly underrated brand.

This is my first time posting. I bought one about 1 year ago. Love it. So much so that several of my shooting buddies went out and bought their own.

Very accurate, very reliable, very low recoil, and pretty darn good sights and trigger. It's a gun that is "full size" for a .380. It's fun and accurate to shoot at the range. But it's still quite light for carry. It's about a the size of a Walther PP, but with a wider grip. The one I've shot (quite a bit) was really, really smooth. The controls, trigger, and slide/rail fit were all excellent.

The only criticism I have is that some of the internal parts are held together with a little spring clip. It should work just fine unless you have a serious overcharge situation. But I've seen that clip come off and the trigger bar come loose after after a round was touched off behind an uncleared squib. It rendered the gun useless until opened up and the parts put back on. That's definitely not a major concern, but it IS different.

I've never owned a Bersa.

Recently a woman I'm teaching to shoot asked me about her buying a .380. I told her I never really heard anything bad about them.

She bought one.
I've given her several different loads, including HP and reloads, to shoot. Best I can remember the gun has yet to have a malfunction of any kind.

I'm impressed with the gun.

Is the Thunderer a copy of the PPK, or does it just look that way? The Thunderer is one of those guns that you don't seem to get a lot of press, but man they are everywhere. Bersa must have made a zillion of them over the years. And everyone who own's one seems to be happy with it.

Though it will not replace my CZ's or 1911's A Bersa 380 cc has found its way into my pocket on many an occaision. 5yrs, lots of rounds, nary a hiccup. Wife doesnt like it, she is a revolver gal.

My mother got the Bersa Thunder CC for her CCW and it is very reliable, however the sights are pretty difficult on the CC version. VERY low profile. They are great for pulling out of a holster, but my Makarov has better sights, and thats saying something.

The action is more like a blowback version of a Beretta 92, as far as the how the internal parts of the trigger, internal safeties, and manual safety/decocking lever work and function. It's a more refined design, IMO. Except for the split ring holding the trigger bar in place.

I have two and no problems with them. Make sure your wife is strong enough so she can rack the slide. I know a lady who loves this gun but she can't pull the slide back.

Thanks guys. I think that it is important to get a gun that fits the person and since this seems to be a good firearm it sounds like I am going shopping :D

Comfortable & reliable with anything i feed it.
The only malfuntions from my duo tone came when using an aftermarket pro mag 10 rnd magazine
I would not mind getting a nice looking set of wood grips for mine one of these days.

The besra is a ppk clone but it is not exactly the same. I had a chance to check out a co workers original walther ppk. The walther uses the triggerguard as the take down lever and seemed to have a stiffer trigger. I did not get to shoot it, but i bealieve the economical bersa is actaully a bit better than the original.

I have had one for 6 years. It has over 750 rounds of about anything .380 I could find to put through it. Not one glitch.

Very little recoil since the size to weight to caliber rating is well balanced. The thing is very accurate.
Two things to watch. Keep the grip screw and the rear sight screw snugged up or put some non-permanent Loc-Tite on them since they have a tendancy to work their way out.

I think Bud's has them for $275.

BERSA has a great Forum you may want to check out.

I still haul mine around in a man bag when I travel as a back-up to whatever else I am carrying.

Here is mine with an extended magazine.

My wife's 380 firestorm is a great little gun, accurate and haven't found a round it won't eat. My handloads of 3.5 gr Unique and cheapo Sutter 100 gr lead will shoot 2.5" 25 yard groups everytime.

I have a ppks. I know they look the same but if they are made the same and shoot the same it will be a great gun. I have mostly big cal guns but my ppks is my fav. I love the weight of it. I thought about getting one because I love my ppks so much.

I'll spare the details, but the biggest difference you'd notice if you don't care about the insides are the Bersa's DA trigger is a bit longer and breaks almost all the way to the rear. But it's a lot lighter and smoother without any significant stacking.

They are definitely not made the same. The bluing is not deep. The steel feels lighter. And the grip panels are quite thin. It's a good, practical, light gun, not a solid hunk of collector-grade PPK.

The Bersa Thunder .380 is a minature Smith and Wesson. It has all the same toys... decocker, trigger disconnect safety, 3-dot sights, and shoots single or double action. It's limited in firepower since it's not a "double stack", but it's a fine low-cost firearm.

When Bersa made all steel guns, I used to buy .380's, refinish them, shoot about a thousand rounds in them, and then sell them and buy another one. I've never had problems with Bersas, and their Pro Series guns are super. I've got a .40 cal Bersa Pro Series sitting in the safe waiting to go shooting, so don't be thrown off because they're "foreign" guns. They make good guns, and reliable ones.
