I took my wife to go shooting about a week ago, taking my Savage .22WMR and a friend with a Walther P22 and G22. She had fun, and shot very well.
So just yesterday I received a gas-powered airsoft Beretta 92, and I needed to buy gas for it. The nice folks at Virginia Arms in Manassas told me that they didn't carry airsoft supplies, but that there was a new place right down the street: Airsoft CQB. So we drove down there, and while I was looking at the green gas and BB selection, BrokenMa is off looking at the case full of gas pistols. She asks to see a few of them, and decides that the Glock 23-replica one fits her hand the best. So she turns to me and bounces and asks if she can have it.
As if I'm going to say no.
So we spent 2 hours last night with a BB-trap target, that I built out of a cardboard box and a few Shoot-n-See stickers, set up down our hall, shooting at about 7 yards. She was having a grand time. She was a bit frustrated at her accuracy, but I was watching her, and she was aiming well; unfortunately the airsoft pistols seem to throw flyers fairly often. So I told her to treat this as training in sight picture, breathing control, safety, and proper trigger pull, and not to worry too much about accuracy with the BBs. I told her that she can worry about accuracy when we get her her very own real handgun. And she said "Ok", as if it were now no longer a question of if she were getting her own, but rather when.
When I met this girl, she was open-minded; neither pro-nor anti. She's becoming a shooter. I'm so proud.
