Will S&W ever make a 10mm Shield?

I’ve carried a .45 Shield for years but wouldn’t mind a change of pace to 10mm especially one that fits my existing holsters. They have the frame for it. 45 Shield. They can handle 9mm and 40 pressures. Think it’ll ever happen or am I just day dreaming again?

A Shield in 10mm would eat into the M&P10 sales quite a bit, I would imagine. So, I doubt they would build one.
I don’t think it will. I can see people buying both.

But, 10mm Shield EZ double stack would be AMAZING

The reason I ask is I’m gearing up to get a M&P 10mm fullsize to have around and for camping. Having its little brother share ammo would just be very nice.
same! I bought 2 (10mm) and there is no going back. Great for camping, hiking, carry. Never felt underarmed. Try hand loading your 10mm it’s easy and will cut the cost but alot if you shoot defensive ammo

There are so many brands w 10mm models in their line up these days. Shield in 10? I'm in.

No they will not make a Shield in 10mm....The reason is the recoil impulse for the 10mm full pressure load is twice what the .45 acp is...They cannot put enough weight into the slide/barrel combo to make it live. You could put a heavy compensator on the gun but then why not just carry a full sized 10mm.

How does a G29 size up next to a shield? And like other members have mentioned SA makes a slightly larger version. Why not S&W? they have it in .40 which can be snappy.

Lets not forget the purpose of the Shield, it's a small light weight carry gun. Hey how about a Shield in 50 Action Express?
I do like the trigger on the Shied Plus and I hope it makes its way into other S&W pistols.

I agree with others that 10 mm seems to be a bit too much for a compact conceal carry gun. Sure, there will be some people that will have no issue firing 10 mm from a compact conceal carry pistol. But there are already people that have difficulty with a 9 mm concealed carry gun. So niche market for 10 mm conceal carry.

But I do believe than 10 mm is going to become far more popular for open carry sidearms.

The shield I believe is primarily for 2 leggers. 40 certainly excels for that use. I would really like to see some of these wonder micro 9's in 40 versions, although I know the chance of that is very slim at this point.

Out of a shorter barrel in the Shield (3.1") what would you gain over the existing 40 SW version??
Just more boom and blast,

It really just wouldn't be practical, I have one and if you compare 160gr rounds, I buy Bufflao Bore, and the .45 at the same bullet weight is on almost dead equal in muzzle energy. Sure they have some wicked rounds in 10mm, but it would be a handful trying to shoot a 180gr from that little gun and a whopping 720 plus ftlb of energy.

Just for comparison...a 9mm 115 grain bullet at 1150 fps will impart 6 joules of energy to a 19oz slide/barrel combo during recoil (that is a full sized auto)...a 10mm 200 grain at 1200 fps results in 21.7 jules of recoil energy in the same full sized slide/barrel combo....THAT is why nobody makes an ultra compact 10mm....The gun would not blow up...but the plastic frame would fail....50 shots? 100 shots? Don't know but a shield with a much lighter slide/barrel weight will fail...

I wanted that in the XDs. then I realized the 38 Super would be even better in an XDs. Give me super comp brass and an extractor made for it, and it's a recipe for fun.

But got sick of waiting, sold my XDs, and got a 3.8" XDm Elite in 10mm. I don't miss the XDs anymore.
