I have some 215grn cast lead bullets to run out of a marlin 1894. Appear to be ~.430-4.31. RNFP profile, 20" barrel. I have 3lbs of longshot I need to use up. Hogdon has pistol data, but no rifle. Using the pistol data as a reference, I feel like 9-12grns is probably where I want to be, but if somebody with quickload would be willing to run some numbers for me I'd appreciate it.

44mag
20" barrel, ballard rifling
215grn lead RNFP
.430 diameter

I'm targeting about 1200fps out of a rifle.

That was my plan, but a rifle generates a lot more velocity. A member hooked me up with the data, and apparently it picks up nearly 250fps more over the handgun data. I need to keep my velocities in check due to the lead bullets.

So with you 215gr RNFP loaded to 1.548 OAL
9.0 gr of Longshot gets you a predicted 1215 fps from a 20-inch barrel.
12.0 gr of Longshot gets you a predicted 1471 fps from a 20-inch barrel.

The usual caveats that this is Quckload with NO real world data to support this load so take it was a suitable size grain of salt.

Expect horrible leading and poor accuracy with .430" bullets in a 1894. Been there done that.

SAAMI rifle spec is .431" min groove diameter. Mine slugged at .4315" and .432" cast bullets was the only way to stop the severe leading and get acceptable accuracy.

.430" bullets are 44mag pistol bullets. The SAAMI min groove diameter for pistols is .429".

44mag is the only cartridge I am aware of that has different specs for rifle and pistol.

yeah, I know. But they were free. I'm hoping they will obdurate some, if not, well, I've got a copper chore boy and a bronze brush. I've cleaned out lead before. The ultimate plan is to run hot jacketed loads through it, but in the meantime, I have a few hundred lead bullets and 3 lbs of longshot with nothing else to do. I also have some gas checked bullets a friend says he will give me.

You've never borrowed something before? or asked a question?
Your questions seems to indicate that you don't see the differences between your examples and receiving the results of a software program that is produced for profit without contributing to that profit. It seems to me that you don't want to see the differences, but I admit that I could easily be wrong about that.

Therefore, I can't help you.

My position remains the same: if you need the results of a given software program, (and this request was extremely specific about the information required and where it needed to come from) buy it.
