wilson case length gauge

Is a loaded round, 7.62x39, supposed to fit in the wilson case length gauge the same as a full length sized case? I bought some BVAC reloaded 7.62x39 and put one into the gauge. It was tight and a hair above the top shelf. I thought well seating the bullet would stretch the neck and make it a tighter fit. I googled my question and got a THR thread where someone said they tested all their .223 loaded rounds in the case length gauge. I may have misunderstood. A little help please.

Yes, it should.

But, just because it doesn't fit a Wilson case gage doesn't mean there is a thing wrong with it.

7.62x39 rifles are notoriously loose in chamber dimensions and headspace.

Whether or not the ammo fits in your rifle and allows the bolt to close & lock is what really matters.

I'd be one to suggest 'long is good' in an AK or SKS, as long as the bolt will lock shut on it.

Your cases will for sure last longer!

Also check the length in the magazine, making sure it feeds.

The Wilson gage only checks case headspace, not OAL of the loaded round.

I put a couple of the rounds in a mag and shot at a stump. I was a little tense since I built the gun around a Sota Arms barrel with a low profile gas block and freefloat handguard from ebay. The upper was Sota Arms too along with the bolt. It worked smoothly but I missed the stump and lost the brass.
I now have ARs in 5.56, 7.62 and .300 BLK. Two in 7.62x39. Here is the latest one I just fired.

It also checks the trim to length which is not a concern in new already loaded ammunition.
