Trying another new powder. W244, WSPM, Starline brass. Using hodgdon data.

Loaded 10 @ 5.0 grs. 1 @ 6.0 grs listed Maximum. (Yes, did not learn from No 9 event)

When fired, Loads seemed very light, even the 1 at maximum that is listed at 1250 fps. (Different barrel length). Felt more like a 38 special Target load.

Anyone tried 244 in a 357 mag with 158/165 cast bullets.

I run 5.8gr of 244 with 158gr lswc from Missouri Bullet Co out of my 4" Taurus 66. I've used both cci 500 and 550s. Nice clean load, soft shooting, no complaints. It also works great with 38 spl cases and 4.1 grains if I'm remembering right.

I Haven’t yet tried 244 in .357, interested in this thread. Any chrono data ? Most of my 244 testing in other calibers showed Vavg very close to book values which was surprising to me. Usually I see a Vavg lower than book.

I have not put any of the 244 loads on a chrono. I have been on an accuracy bender and have been using its middle of the road data for range ammo. I have been very happy with the results. What I intend to do at some point is put all my favorites together and test them for velocity just to satisfy my curiosity. I would be interested in hearing about any work you have done so far with 244.

Will do thanks.
I only have WSP primers (not magnums) and using my Henry lever gun. Still ok w/5 grains 244?

Yes, should produce enough velocity for the bullet to exit the barrel muzzle.

Maybe I'm being overly careful but wanted to run this load by the group.
Loaded 9 357 cartridges. 5.0 grains WIN 244 over a 158 gr bullet (LRNFP Hi-Tek coated). Standard WSP primers (not magnum). COL length is a approx 1.57-1.58. Firm roll crimp.
Shooting from my Henry 357 lever (tube mag) with 16.5" barrel.

thank you

Although I understand this is an apples v oranges comparison...

I've loaded W244 in both 9mm and .45ACP, using Hodgdon online data as a guide. What I found was... even at load max, my velocities were off substantially from book data. In fact, I actually went over published data in one instance, and still couldn't reach stated velocity. Much like with WST, I think W244 is quite sensitive to case fill/bullet seat depth... I shortened my OAL a little and it helped not only with the velocity (understandable) but also with accuracy and burn. I understand bullet seating depth isn't really a variable with something like a cast .357MAG load... which would crimp in the crimp groove. Unfortunately, my version of QuickLoad does not have W244 in it's repertoire, so I can't play with charge weight/seat depth variations.

Let me be the first to say  shoot’em!

My measure does not like W244 powder. Bridged in the powder funnel i use as a baffle. Powder sticks to everything. The powder drops can be as wide as Unique, if not carefully double bumping at fill.

I first tested a few rounds by hand weighing the powder. Wish i had tried the measure too. Would not have bought more 244.

357 Magnum- Any new chronograph data, bullet velocity, with 6.0 grs & 158 lswc? 9mm or 44 mag?

Thank you.

Edit- found- https://www.handloadermagazine.com/propellant-profiles-9 Ruger Security-Six 4" 162 gr cast with gas check. [email protected] grs , 1085 fps velocity.

More like it from the recoil i felt.
