What's your opinion of these old plinkers?
I stumbled across a 275 slide action 22mag in a hock shop. As I was looking it over I discoverd that it had a bulge in the barrel. The owner of the shop that I have gotten to know over the years was more than a bit surprised that he'd been taken. This is an honest place and I have bought several rifles from him. He seems to get some really fine items from time to time and always checks with the authorities about the firearms he takes in. So when I saw the look on his face as I pointed out the problem with the barrel I knew even before he spoke he'd been had. I thought the idea of having a slide action 22mag was a good one, so I did some checking on this and found a barrel at Numrich for $40. Went back a couple of days later after the owner had his gunsmith look it over and tell him it would cost more for him to fix it than it was worth. I helped him out and bought it for scrap at $50. Put the new barrel on it and it shoots ok. Of course I had to make a spanner wrench for the barrel nut, but I think all in all, any day you can get a shooting Winchester for $90, is a good day. Does about 1 1/2" groups at 100yds. What the heck it was a used barrel....
