I got a smoking great deal on a bunch of old Winchester 571 powder. I realize this powder was meant for heavy and magnum loads. However, I was wondering if some of the older manuals list data that I can use in 1 1/8 oz 2.75" 12-gauge loads.

If you have access to some data for this discontinued powder, please post some 1 1/8 oz loads. AA hulls would be great, but I can switch to Rem or Fed if necessary.

Fed hulls are NOT the same as Remington or Winchester, so you would need different wads

found this on a Google search - use at your own risk:

12-gauge loads, 2.75" Winchester hull, compression-formed

Shot Primer Charge Wad Vel. LUP
1 3/8 Fed 209A 32.0 WAA12R 1215 11000 psi
1 3/8 Win 209 36.0 WAA12F114 1285 10300
1 3/8 Fed 209 35.5 WAA12R 1285 10500
1 3/8 Fed 209 35.5 Rem RP12 1285 10100
1 ½ Win 209 36.5 WAA12R 1260 10300
1 ½ Win 209 36.5 Rem RP12 1260 9800
1 ½ CCI 109 35.5 WAA12R 1260 10500

Also this:
inchester 571, or H-hs7 loads for 12 gauge start at 1 3/8 ounce as the lightest lead load that I am aware of. and it makes a great fast 1 3/8 load for upland or ducks. I have also used it in 20 gauge 2 3/4 inch one ounce loads. You will find a fair bit of load data on the older winchester loading booklets, and also in the lyman shotguns manuals.

Are those last three loads 1 1/8? There is some formatting problem in that post. Never mind, I think they're 1 1/2.

I'm looking for 1 1/8 ounce loads.

Winchester 571 is way too good a pistol powder to waste in shotgun shells. It produces the best accuracy of any powders I've tried in the 10mm, with decent velocities. If you research some of the older Winchester data, there are quite a few handgun loads listed.

Hope this helps.

I agree, W571/HS-7 is a great 10mm powder and it also works well in the 40 S&W for top end loads especially heavier bullets. (Speer #12 has data)

Fellas. I don't shoot .40 or 10. However.... An accurate load for 185 plated and 230 gr FMJ .45 acp, as well as 115 gr FMJ 9mm would be nice to play with.

You "might" be successful in the 9mm even though HS-7 is on the slow side for that cartridge but I highly doubt you will like the results in a low pressure round like the 45 Auto. I personally would not use W571(HS-7) in the 45 Auto, I don't even use W540(HS-6) in the 45 auto because I feel it's too slow a powder.

It sounds like the perfect excuse to buy a 10mm pistol to me! I've used more feeble excuses than that to buy a new gun.......
