Hello,
I have a Winchester 62a with a failure to feed issue. This was my Dad's rifle that he gave to me in 2020. He said that it wouldn't feed a round. I suggested that it may just need a though cleaning. Then he told me that he had trouble with it before and in the late eighties he had the local machinist/gunsmith repair it. He remembers that th3 gunsmith said that he had to make a part for it, but doesn't remember what part.

I finally started looking at it today. My findings are:
1. The carrier doesn't lift intermittently. If I take the separate the action from the receiver and reinstall the action the carrier lifts and functions normally. To be clear I am just breaking the gun down with the take down screw. I loaded 10 rounds into the magazine tube and attempted to cycle the action. The first 3 rounds loaded and extracted fine. The fourth round would not eject. It came out of the chamber, but did not release from the chamber. I removed the round by hand and attempted to cycle it again. The carrier did not lift again. There was a round in the carrier.

2. I disassembled it . Broke it down at the take down screw, removed the magazine tube, and the bolt. I put the action and bolt in the ultrasonic cleaner with Ed's red. Took them out awhile and cleaned them by hand. Completely cleaned the entire gun, lubed and put it back together. The action is much smoother now at least. It still fails to eject the 4th round as stated above.

I am thinking that this is a extraction issue, but I am not sure. I do have another 62a as well (it was my grandfather's). I think that next I will swap the bolts and if if the extraction problem goes away. Grandpa's rifle functions normally.

Both guns have matching serial numbered parts (match to themselves). The one with the problem was manufactured in 1953, and the other one in 1958.

I am open to suggestions on how to fi it. Both guns have sentimental value to me, and both were were used for years and show it. They are not collectables for sure.

Thanks for reading my long winded post.
