What can you tell me about these? I know that the Model 64 was a specific variant of the model 94 but can't find much info besides that. I'm looking at one in the local shop. But know almost nothing about them.

Here's the particulars on the one in the shop:
Winchester Model 64
Manufactured 1948
24" barrel
2/3 magazine tube
tapped for peep sight
very nice condition stocks
barrel and reciever reblued, but very nice
asking $650

I've been wanting a lever action in 30-30, I don't really have anything equivalent. So is this the one? A little bit more than I care to pay, but it's in really good condition, and the bore is incredible.

So what do you think?

For that price you could get a new Marlin or Winchester of your choice and a bunch of ammo and other stuff. This is based on the fact that I know nothing about the winchester model 64 but I do know about what you can get in a lever gun for that kind of money.

The other leverguns in 30-30 are two Marlins. One of them is pre-microgroove with the fatter forend and a scope rail, they're asking $309 for that one. It has a very illfiting recoil pad, but they didn't cut down the stock for it thankfully so it's easy to fix. The other is one of the newer ones with the crossbolt safety.

I'm not really in a hurry, but I like the Winchester, and can't imagine that it will get any cheaper with time. Since it's a pre-64 it's already rare enough without the New Haven plant shutting down. Not actually that jazzed about the 2/3 magazine, but I do understand that it balances a little better with it.

$650 is top dollar. Ask for an inspection time frame, usually 3 days when buying on-line or through the mail, to see how it shoots. If the rifle shoots well, keep it. With the new Hornady LeveRevolution ammo the rifle will be capable of taking deer sized game out to good 200-225 yds. Enjoy!

Thanks for all the replies. I buy most of my stuff through this shop so I might be able to get $50 off if I ask. They may be in to the rifle for too much to have much wiggle room. I just didn't know if the price was in line or not.

Well I ended up putting the rifle in layaway. They budged a little on the price and I decided that I might end up regretting letting it slip through my fingers.
