Winchester model 70 Pre 64 ??

I had an uncle who passed away years ago that gave me a Winchester Model 70 Pre '64 in 30-06. He had me promise not to sell it because I wouldn't get what it is worth. I am not an expert by any means on guns, but I have people ask from time to time..what do you shoot? (I use this for deer hunting mainly) Then, always the next question is, 'how much is it worth?' when I say it is a pre '64 and I have no clue. I absolutely love this gun and how it shoots, in great condition, no rust, original wood stock..My question is..what is a gun like this worth roughly? I'd appreciate some feedback, thanks!

it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay. no more. no less. buyers set prices, not sellers.

I have a controlled round feed Winchester Model 70 circa 1994. I've owned a lot of rifles and I can say the controlled round feeding is overblown.

What is a pre 64 worth; not sure, but probably more than I would be willing to pay.

You would have to post a couple good photos and give us the serial number range. There are different types and values within the pre-64 world.

I have my grandfathers pre-64. I put a 3x9 on it and the first time I shot it at 500 I ended u with a hole a half inch from the bullseye. What is it worth?? I don't know and it doesn't matter. He was the best off hand shot I have ever seen, a veteran of vietnam, dropped a pile of mule deer with it, it was his favorite rifle, and I will never sell it.

Prices on pre-64's are all over the place. Almost any of them went for a premium when Winchster stopped making CRF rifles. The current production rifles are actually much better made than the pre-64's and this has brought the prices of most of the pre-64's down a lot in the last few years.

Most Winchesters made from WW-2 through 1963 don't have any real collector value and should only sell as shooters. The Pre WW-2 rifles, as a rule are the only ones with any real collector value. Some rare calibers and special runs are worth more.

The $800 quote posted earlier seems about right to me. But I'd still spend about the same money for a new one. If I had an older one with any sentimental value it would not be for sale at any price however.

Not going to ever sell it. Best shooting gun I've owned. I have a Leupold VX I 3-9X40 on it and I swear you just have to wave it the direction you want to shoot and it's money lol. Thanks for the input everyone!
