Winchester model 74 wont feed

.22 rimfire, chambers the first round, fires and ejects but won't load another.
Took it apart nothing stuck or gummed up. Real clean.
Any ideas?

Is the bolt going over the next round in the tube, or is it getting stuck on it?

The bolt closes all the way.
If I pull the magazine tube out an inch or two the next round cycles perfect.

22 Longs vs. 22 Shorts

You're using 22-longs, right? I have a Model 74 that fires longs one at a time, but fires up to 20 22-shorts in sequence. If I accidentally load longs, they hang like you describe, and I have to open the chamber a bit to get the next one to load.
