So I bought a Yugo SKS yesterday, along with 5 boxes of Wolf and 5 boxes WWB.

Well, in doing the usual post buy research, I see a warning that thin primer US made "hunting" ammo is more susceptible to slam fires.

Any opnion on this? I suppose I could just fire the WWB one at a time, after all with a new rifle I have lots to learn. I hear the berdan primer on the Wolf is more stout.

Unrealted, but am having a devil of a time unfolding the $%^^& bayonet.
Blasted it with GunScrubber and WD40 a buncha times to loosen the cosmo that might be sticking, but no luck. Is there some release somewhere I am missing?
I know its spring loaded but it is stuck fast....

I'm going to make a guess that you're doing what I did in the gun shop the first time I played with one, 'till the guy showed me how it works. ;)

Ok see the collar thingy I've highlighted in blue? Pull that in the direction of the red arrow. While holding that out, fold out the bayonet. :) You're probably thinking, "Yea, duh, I know that idiot!" but I figured I'd start with the most obvious problem.

greyhound,

The Winchester ammo should be ok to use, just make sure that before you take the rifle out, first thoroughly clean out the firing pin channel in the bolt. With the bolt out of the rifle, the firing pin should move back and forth freely if you tip it up and down. The easiest way to to this is hose it out with brake cleaner (same thing as Gun Scrubber at 1/3 the cost), or soak it in mineral spirits.

Nope, that was it. :D I might have finally read that in the manual that I got,
but I'm not that far along yet.

Dave M -

Just got back from Wal Mart, got two cans of brake cleaner, mineral spirirts, and a big ole bottle of Simple Green so I am set for next week's project.....

Trying to work up the guts to put the stck in the oven on low!
