Hey guys and girls,

I lurk around here alot more than I post but anyhow...

I just recently picked up my first handgun that is actually mine (have been shooting with an uncle of mine for a few years prior and then took a 2 year break after he moved). I decided on a Ruger p-94 and am quite happy with it after the mere 300 rounds I have put through it so far, however the range that is just a few minutes from my house requires me to not shoot FMJ or any HPs due to the backstop not being able to handle them.

I have a nicer range about 40 minutes from me but this place is more convienient, so finally I get to my question...

Does anybody know where I can find a good bulk deal on WinClean ? I would like to buy it by the case since it is what they allow me to shoot but I am having a hard time finding it. Any help will be apreciated, also if you have any other rounds that they will allow me to shoot that might be a better deal I am all ears.

Thanks everyone.

I have never purchased it since our dept issues it for practice but you can try the no lead, non toxic primered federal ballisticlean

S&B offers a product that range might accept (NOTOX), as does Remington.
Ask what they will and will not accept.

This range will not allow FMJ pistol but will allow WinClean which is ...FMJ to the best of my knowledge?????
What gives with these people.

1. Sounds like a ploy to make their partons buy their range ammo.
What is their backstop made out of? What cal are you shooting?
Steel core steel jacket maybe I could see but I don't think 45 FMJ ball bangs but the backstop more or less than anything else.
2.Sounds to me like they are trying to keep lead out of the air. If they have bad ventilation I would not shoot there.
Of all the non-toxics I have shot I was the least impressed by WinClean from an accuracy POV.

There claim was that an FMJ would bounce back since the range is so short where as a bullet like WinClean will pancake on impact. (They very well could be feeding me a line of ???? to get me to buy their range ammo, which dosen't work cause I buy WinCLean to shoot there anyhow, lol)

WinClean does have a flat tip that is exposing some sort of other material. I don't know if they have a valid point or not, I'll turn to you guys for that answer.

I would imagine that there ventilation is not the best in the world but it wouldn't be the range I'd go to for a full day anyhow. The only reason I go there is that it is a quick easy place to stop and put 50-100 rounds through my gun after work to relax.

To answer the caliber question I am shooting a Ruger P-94 9mm, so I am definatly not using a hand cannon or anything.

I thought the WinClean bullet had a metal jacket covering the base (the part exposed to the powder charge). The tip of the bullet is exposed lead so that it is technically not a fully enclosed metal jacket, IIRC. Does that sound right?

Have a lot of you guys had good experiences with Winclean? A year or two ago I picked up 50 rounds to play with since I had never used it and had horrible results. The only malfunctions I ever had out of one of my Glocks came from that 50 round box. So tell me was it a fluke or are there some problems with it?

When I shot .45 WinClean out of a new gun, it initially had FTF problems (not so with regular round nose FMJ ammo). After about 700-800 rounds WinClean .45 was no longer a problem. Never had a problem with 9mm WinClean in my HK's.

Winclean 9mm in my Taurus has been perfect - about 400-500 rounds.

I've shot 300 or so WinClean (.45ACP) rounds in both my Ruger KP-90 & Springfield 1911-A1 Champion. No issues of any kind.

WinClean ammo is BEB, which stands for IIRC Brass Enclosed Base. Basically, a regular FMJ is covered from the nose back, with an exposed base. The WinClean seems to be a "backwards" FMJ, with a covered base, and an exposed lead tip. If you look at a box of it, you'll see a picture showing the difference.

I toured my local Izaak Walton League recently, which has an indoor range. They don't let you shoot HP ammo, because the "lip" on it gouges the backstop when it hits, and slowly digs away at it. They would rather not replace the backstop, as it's rather heavy. :D I would've figured the brass "lip" on the front of WinClean ammo might do the same...oh well.

To get a case, if Wally World is cheapest, ask the sporting goods manager (they are in 7am-4pm in my area) to order an extra case for you. Many people have said that they will do this.

WinClean is quite an appropriate name...anyone looked inside a fired brass? It's shiny! :what:

Jam-o-Matic for me

In all the years I've been shooting the Win Clean .45 ACP is the only stuff that made my Mil Spec jam every two or three rounds. A long way from a new gun too.

I returned it to the store and they accepted it with no problem. It may just be my gun, but they said that some 1911's have had problesm with the flat nose design. Good luck, but be sure to run a few boxes throutgh your weapon before you buy a bulk lot.

I shot some .40 WinClean through my MK40 and it seemed to leave little bits of metal shavings all over the inside of the gun. That never happened with any other ammo I've ever used. I don't know if that's a normal thing for WinClean because I've never used it since. I also noticed that it would send strange showers of sparks out of the barrel. Weird stuff. Maybe I just got a bad box, but I didn't like it.
