I've been shooting my new 10/22 like crazy lately. So I thought I'd ask how much .22 ammo do you keep on hand and what kind are you shooting? With ammo prices going up i've been conserving on shooting my other rifles and doing alot of plinking. Myself I keep about a 1000 round on hand and I don't buy bulk 500 or 550 round boxes of ammo anymore due to many duds. Also I've switched to CCI's velocitors and that stuffs kind of pricey for .22.

I have been shooting my .22 more. My 10/22 shoots the Federal and Remington bulk packs. Shoots Remington better than the Federal stuff though, it's just so dirty. Usually have at least 1000 rnds of .22

I shoot CCI in my Brno. It shoots very well. I buy it by the thousand The last lot i bought of 2000 was 450 Skr, about 61 USD

The .22lr has become the only planker, everything else is fired only for traning or hunting . My Marlin shoots the winchester wildcats the best and its almost always in stock at the local wally-world.

I shoot one of my 22s maybe once every two months. Ammo prices do not dictate what I shoot or how often I shoot. I still hit the range every weekend.

Well, not a rifle, but I am shooting my Marvel 1911-.22 almost exclusively. I have polished off about 3 bricks of CCI Blazer over the past 2-3 weeks. My reloaders are all in storage and money non-existent as my house nears building completion. Looking forward to outfitting my reloading room(You will all be jealous) but that is still a way off. So until then, I am learning how to be a bullseye shooter while I am still 30 years too young for the sport.

Yes, it's a small issue for me. However, not really a driving factor yet.

I always make a habit of putting a .22 in the bag so that if I want to stay a bit longer than planned at the range I have that option.

I always shoot my .22's I LOVE them.. I have a Walther P22, Remmy model 582, Ruger Mark III Target/Hunter, Mark II, Woodsman (3rd gen), a stock 10/22 and a tricked out 10/22. I have other guns too but these are the ones I shoot the most.. It's just a joy.

Real shooters shoot. Real reloaders reload. Some folks are both. Surplus 8mm is STILL 6 cents a round shipped. Who needs .22.... :)

i try to shoot about a brick of 22 a week, sometimes more sometimes less, but during summer thats usually what i try / actually get done.

i love my ruger mk II, it's making me better with iron sights, i need the practice for sil. league, and frankly, for 9.70 per brick after tax, it can't be beat. i reload and can do 9mm for less than i buy a brick of 22, but i still think there is a definate unique fun aspect to 22's that can't be found elsewhere.

I shoot .22 for fun and cheap practice. Let me look in here a minute for my .22's...{rummaging through Foggy's Artillery Locker...}

Ruger MKII...fun gun check
Ruger 10/22..another fun gun check
Ruger Single-Six...Most Fun Gun check
OLD Marlin 99...loaner/trainer check

Fed Amercian Eagle brick...1,2,3,4..check
Rem Golden Bullet bulk boxes...1,2,3,4 check
Win bricks...1,2,3..check
CCI Stingers hmmmm only got 300 of these
CCI Velocitor what only one box of those?????

Oh, wow... I gotta get back to the ammo store.

I've definately been shooting 22LR more.

Over the past few years, I got in on some great sales(gotta love C&R discounts) and stocked up on about 15k of Winchester Dynapoint, Federal 510 Classic, and Aguilla subsonic. I've got enough 22 to last a while. ;)

My second attempt to satisfy my AR-15 addiction despite 5.56 ammo prices going though the roof (first attempt was a 7.62x39 AR  ), I built this dedicated 22LR AR with a 1/12 twist lightweight barrel and a Ciener kit (the regular mag is just for show). Of course, one of the benefits is I can shoot this in my back yard pistol range where my other ARs are understandably a little too loud for my neighbors.

i never gave any 10/22 a second glance. bought one 2 months ago and have been stocking up and shooting cci blazer bricks like there is no tomorrrow.

I love shooting my .22's no matter what the price of ammo (I reload, too.)

Super Colibris for turtles & squirrels w/o disturbing the neighbors... :D

Velocitors for larger targets like rogue watermellon.... :D :D

Bulk pack through my Buckmark for IPSC-style speed shooting... :D :D :D

22's are fun...

As far as I am concerned with as much money I have tied up in firearms quibbling over ammo rising a couple bucks a box really seems rather ludicrous (even though I catch myself doing it from time to time but I digress) :D

That being said I shoot lots of .22 not because of price but because I LOVE .22. Some of my favorite guns are .22s.

Dedicated .22 long rifle AR15.
Marlin 39A
Custom Built Ruger 10/22
CZ452
SP101 .22

Hell I love .22s.

The key to incredible .22 enjoyment and happiness is not to just go buy some off the shelf Ruger 10/22 or Marlin 60, although these are great guns and lots of fun. The key is to take your time and buy or build something a little special. The CZ452 is a hell of a .22 for the money and when topped with good glass is a literal tack driver. Lots of pride of ownership. The Marlin 39 feels like a real walnut and steel lever action rifle......because IT IS. Buy a cheap Ruger and built it into something to call your own.

Now of course this all costs money to do but for me anyway it pays off in spades. I have a bone stock stainless Ruger 10/22. it is a good gun and was cheap but doesn't get near the use of my custom 10/22 or other higher end .22 rifles.

Once again I am not saying you cannot have a blast with a cheap .22 rifle and I am not saying one should feel they HAVE to spend bags of money to have fun or accuracy. All I am saying is if you have the means and have never thought about getting a higher end .22 do yourself a favor and give it a try.

One other thing, anybody who likes AR15s should run, not walk to the nearest internet connection and order a dedicated .22 upper. It is by far the BEST gun money I have ever spent. I went with the DPMS unit and have had 100% functioning on any Bushmaster lower and incredible accuracy all the while letting me shoot what amounts ot a real by God AR15 anywhere I want, indoor or outdoor.

Some of my favorites.

Build Yer Own 10/22.

The Marlin 39A is a spectacular gun. Not a spectacular .22 but a spectacular gun and has lots of history behind it.

Ok so this is probably a bit more glass the a .22 should have but my CZ452 is laser accurate with anything 40 grain.

Just by happenstance and before I became aware of the rapid rise in ammo prices I:

Replaced the firing pin in my old Buckmark that had started having too many fail to fires after 40 some odd bricks and made it like new again.

Bought a Kadet Kit for my CZ PCR because I saw one at Gander MOuntain with only one mag for $150.

Replaced the charging handle in the JC Higgins model 31 (made by High Standard) 22 semi auto rifle my dad left me and got it working again.

Yeah I'm having a lot of fun lately for two cents a round and letting my stock of center fire ammo I bought at decent prices hold down a shelf. The AK, M1 Carbine, and centerfire Handguns have plenty of food available but they are getting a bit of rest lately. I still add to the ammo dump when I see a decent deal. I still shoot centerfire from time to time but not as often as before.

I have, started with my Ruger MkII, then just bought a CZ452 Trainer and a marlin 60. I love shooting .22, accurate, inexpensive, fun!

I have more rimfires than anything else so that is what I shoot the most. In fact the only centerfire rifle I have is a 700 in .223. Have centerfire handguns that I shoot too - for all the centerfire guns I reload.

cslinger - love your selections of 22s! Reminds me very much of my own collection which includes two 10/22s , one with Shilen Barrel/Fajen Stock and the second a Walnut Deluxe with a Volquartsen Muzzlweighted barrel. Also a 39AS and tomorrow I am picking up my CZ 452 American to go along with the CZ Special I have enjoyed for the past 4 years.
