this weekend i visited about 6 shops in my area. only one had ANY wolf 7.62x39. i had a hell of a time tracking some down. to boot, i went to a show a couple of weeks ago and by the second day there was zilch. a couple of the store owners suggested there was spomething strange going on, and that if i found any i should stock up. some piece of news available that i haven't heard yet in regard to this?

+1000 i can find any in my area either and most online outfits i deal with dont have it either. dont know why.

glad i have sevl 1000rds laid in !when i want to shoot ill find something else or buy wwb and shoot less.

any info would be greatly apreciated.

funny that you said that. one of the store owners said he heard that wolf had an import ban in the U.S. because they found a case of it in Kirkuk. i said, "a case?". i thought there would need to be considerably more than case in one location to warrant such a response. i'm sure there are MANY individual cases of said ammo over there.

First of that rumor, Wolf Ammo has been contracted to supply the Iraq army. Wolf makes any number of calibers we dont get here aswell, 12.7, surely arty and such. They retail market I would assume, doesnt account for the largest number of sales.

Sportsmans Guide has it in stock.

Just have to look. The Turners stores I shop them have them in stock. Interestingly, Ammo Brothers, a big ammo-only store, doesn't currently have them though.

The rumor I heard from a Ammo guy at a gun show a few months ago was that the country of Russia(or whatever they call themselves these days) had a massive order of Wolf 7.62x39 for their new assault weapon. That was a few months ago and no one had it(cheaper than dirt,etc....) but supposodly its trickling back into the stores in the US! I found 500 rounds the other day by chance and snatched them up! All I know is Im about to place for a couple thousand rounds in the storage packs for when this happens again! You can always buy the Remington!:p

Everyone I have pinned down on this has confirmed that Wolf's order from the new Iraqi military (meaning US tax payers BTW) has been sucking up most of their current production 7.62x39. They get a better price from Uncle Sam's quisling government than they do from us, so guess who they give priority to. Some of the larger US wholesalers still have large stocks of Wolf and it's taking longer for them to run out. But unless things get peaceful in the middle east anytime soon, expect the shortage to get worse and the prices to get higher. US production of x39 is minimal.

Thanks for this info! I'll check my local guys today and post the results later. I did just buy some winchester white box out of walmart just because it was there and I hadn't tried it. And now for the shocker. I went and looked at the receipt just now. 40 rounds = $16.88 plus 6% sales tax. I must have read the price tag wrong I thought it was $11.88 when I bought it. I may have to take that crap BACK!!

:p

I ordered 500 rnds of Brown Bear from sportsman's guide in Oct. Every month since then they have back ordered it till the next month.:banghead:

Out of curiosity I called the local farm/auto store who used to carry Wolf, but was out recently. They said they had just recieved 30 boxes of Wolf 7.62x39 HP. (This place used to offer whole cases for under $100. Didnt see this shortage coming:eek: ). I hauled @** down there, cleaned 'em out, and didn't continue my backorder with SG. I want ammo now, not a year from now. I've been real SHTF minded lately.

Can someone back from Iraq tell us what kind of ammo the new Iraq army is using? Are they really given the Wolf 7.62x39? We obviously didn't see Wolf 7.62x39 floating around for a while, and they had been more than enough not very long ago:confused: There must be some reason.

They (Sportsmans Guide) are out of stock as well.
They had some in the tins in stock 3 days ago...

I think we're in the "after the shortage, shortage". People are buying like crazy because they haven't been able to buy for awhile and think they might not be able to buy again in the near future.

These folks are listing some Russian 7.62x39 but it's not specifically Wolf.

Classic Arms is stating that Wolf is in stock--prices are up a bit...

IMO, this is a terrible time to buy. The prices will be high, and the demand will drive them higher. Look at the drum mags. We're out from under the AWB, and we're still not seeing the prices relax to pre-ban levels. If people get crazy about this temporary shortage and push the prices too high, we may never see them come all the way back down.

Ammoman.com has Wolf 7.62x39
$149.00 for 1000 rounds, shipped.

Just came in recently.

Glad I've got a few thousand rounds worth of FMJ,HP, and SP sitting downstairs. This is one reason I like to stock up on large amounts of ammo for everything I shoot because supplies will come and go, even for "stuff that'll never run out" like .308 or 7.62X39.

Same problems in Illinois

I posted this earlier in the week:

I know this discussion has come up before. But I thought that things might be / would be easing up by now. I Was at the GS in Springfield today and noticed that Wolf 7.62x39 was basically no where to be seen. I got there around 11am and only one dealer I saw had any. I picked up 1k at a buck-forty. Anyone getting reports of / seeing any bulk amounts of this stuff? The other calibers were plentiful. Sucks for us AK/SKS shooters.

Was out at another place locally today and they had Winchester, for $250 a case............

This is nuts. I'm just wondering if their is an end in sight and they are just price gouging now before the flood gates open. I mean how long can this drought continue for?

Funny how this happens as soon as I buy an SKS. Speaking of which, can anybody tell me who makes the best high capacity conversion kit and magazines for the SKS?

*LOL*

Don't feel bad...... Got my wife an AK47 for Christmas, and she got me an SKS...... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thinking about buying a .22 !!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

The gun show in Pasadena had quite a bit this last weekend. One guy had some corrosive Russian surplus that I had not seen before. Came in wooden crates and 120 round laminated paper sleeves. 1440 rounds cases. He had some PMC ammo in brass as well. I got one case. The only Wolf they had was the hollow point. They didn't have a whole lot, but they did have some.

This is the wholesaler for one of those guys. I think he will ship.

They're all about the same--that is, none of them work well.

I'm kicking myself for not picking up more of Wolf 7.62x39 last summer for $75.00 per thousand. I only bought 2,000 due to shortage of funds. I also got 4 ammo cans for this price. :banghead:
