i heard that Wolf is releasing later this year, a new polymer coated steel case, doing away with laquered steel. Could this be a reason? halting production of an old product, and starting with a new?

It's mostly in THR members' stockpiles. Out of 24,000+ members, only ~30 have posted on this thread. The rest have all the ammo, and they're keeping quiet.

Wolf already switched over awhile ago. Even before this shortage, most Wolf was the polymer coated stuff.

This whole thing is kind of weird. I never thought I would see the day when I could not find 7.62x39.

If the price comes back down, I will definitely get a few cases myself. Maybe even if the price stays the same if I get desparate enough.

Probably so garrett. I just got my Vepr last summer and a case of ammo. By the time I realized I liked it a lot and then bought an SKS, the price was already climbing. I may get case of FMJ if I find it, but I doubt I will stockpile unless the shortages are really chronic. Even then, my idea of stockpiling is maybe have one or two extra cases that I don't open.

I talked to a guy last weekend who had an SKS and was talking about how cheap 7.62X39 was per box. I don't think he could afford a case. I feel like I have a hell of a lot of ammo when I meet guys like that.

I only have about 1000 rounds of it left. I have made this practice:

If I go to a place like Academy, Cheaper Than Dirt, Turners (when I lived in CA) or a show, I usually try to pick up 6-8 boxes just because its there. Thats how I have accumulated my pile of x39. I have never bought a case of it all at once.

I do the same thing with 9mm Blaser from Academy....3.86 a box, grab some if I happen to pop in for ANYTHING....just because its there.
