I've read how people like the small rifle magnum primers for 223. Has anyone used the large rifle magnum primers for 308? Both will be used in AR style rifles. Thanks for any replies.

I bought 10,000 Wolf Small Pistol primers, several month's back, for $210 delivered. I've loaded about 500 of'em so far and have not had any problems. I give them a thumbs up.

I never thought about the pistol primers. Supposedly the magnum rifle primers have a harder cup for auto guns to prevent slam fires. People seem to love the small magnum rifle primers. Just trying to find out if anyone has used the large magnum rifle primers in their guns. 35 bucks savings for 5k is nothing to sneeze at.

FWIW...

I've read several threads, on several boards, regarding Russian primers. I'm convinced the Wolf primers are cheaper, and that David Tubb is a proponent.

I bought a case. I had to re-work up loads. Accuracy suffered from using them. The Wolf SRM loads did not do as well as CCI(s) (regular SR or BR4). I'm also of the understanding, that for ARs, with Wolf primers, only the SRM primers have the thicker cup to avoid slamfires.

I'm still convinced that Wolf primers are cheaper, and that David Tubb uses russian primers. I'm not convinced he uses Wolf primers though.

I'm back to using CCI primers for AR(s), especially with good bullets.

I've been using the Wolf large pistol primers. No problem at all, either with ignition or feeding from my Load Master.

Small Pistol Primers are Good!

Hmmm.... I haven't used any for rifles yet, and that's where I'd be seeing the difference in accuracy if there were any to measure.

That being said, I bought a case (5K) of small pistol primers and they're excellent as far as I can see. No failures, no squibs, nothing out of the ordinary. I guess if I were making my living doing fine long range rifle work, I'd look more closely, but I can vouch for the small pistol primers being just fine for what I paid.

Can't speak about the Wolf small rifle primers. I tried 500 of the small and large pistol primers. Worked great. Turned around and ordered 5000 each of small and large pistol, so I now have 10,000 Wolf primers on the shelf.

Price is great, performance has been excellent for my usage.

I am not trying to hi-jack the thread, but I have a question about Wolf primers as well. Since they are foreign made, are there any problems with corrosive compounds in them?

Well at least Wolf can do SOMETHING right (I.E. primers) Their ammo stinks to high heaven; at least in my experience.

I am pretty bad about not cleaning my guns, so I can field this one.

I have never had a corrosion problem from firing Wolf factory ammo and not cleaning the gun. So, provided the primers are the same as the factory uses, you should not have any problems.

The shotgun primers are definitely non corrosive. No rust after sitting a month and being out in the humidity too.
