From March 28, 2003 Macomb Daily:

A would-be robber got a little more than he bargained for after targeting the wrong motorist at a Warren intersection.
Acting as if he had a handgun, the man tried to rob a 40-year-old woman. But he wound up on the wrong end of a pistol wielded by his intended victim.

The Warren woman told police she braked for a stop sign on Lorraine Boulevard at Dodge Avenue, when the man opened the driver's door of her 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass. With his hand in his right pocket, he pressed an object to her jaw that she believed was a gun.

The culprit ordered her to give him money -- but she had other thoughts.

Clutching $6 in one hand, she began struggling with him as he again demanded her money.

Determined not to become a robbery statistic, the woman reached with her other hand to the passenger seat for her 9 mm handgun, grabbed the pistol and pointed it at his face.

"If you're going to shoot me then do it, 'cause I'm definitely going to kill you," the brave resident replied, according to police reports.

The surprised assailant ran without getting a cent. He is described as a black male in his mid 20s, 6 feet tall, 165 pounds, wearing a blue skull cap and baggy blue jeans.

No shots were fired.

Shaken by the incident, the woman waited until Tuesday to report the March 19 holdup attempt. Reports state that she felt by the time she had regained her composure, she thought it was too late to file a complaint. The woman eventually approached two Warren patrolmen investigating a report of a stolen automobile on her block on Packard Avenue.

The Warren woman, whose name is not being published by The Macomb Daily, has a permit to carry a concealed weapon, police said. Attempts by the newspaper to reach her for comment were unsuccessful.

Detectives have not yet determined if the attempted holdup is related to an earlier similar incident. Police said a teen-age boy told a woman at Fast Track gasoline station on Van Dyke that he needed a ride to Lakeside mall in Sterling Heights. When she said no, he brandished a handgun, Detective Sgt. Scott Pavlik said.

The woman drove off, circled the area and called police after spotting the teen. Officers arrested him a short time later.

Yahoo!! I love to hear these stories.

How's that old saying go?

God made some men stronger than others. Samuel Colt made 'em all equal.

Shoeless

crime prevented thanks to ccw, no shots fired, intended victim made it home in one piece.
i love stories with happy endings!

Good for her. Too bad she didn't report it right away, maybe the cops could have followed the steaming trail to the BG:evil:

JUST SOME COMMENTS: (my 2 cents worth)
I guess Democrats wear blue skull caps now.
Hope he's not Jewish.
AND VERY baggy blue jeans from the "shocked and awed" load he dumped when she spring her 9 on him..
good for her.

Co-worker sent me the link to this article and said she could see this coming from my mouth....

For the rest of us who didn't have a clue where Macomb is, it's in Mount Clemens, MI. :D

or rather, Mt. Clemens is in Macomb county, MI, which is just north of Wayne county, where detroit is located. Warrenis also in Macomb county.

and yes, YAY for MI's shall issue... if they ever get around to my application. they told me 3-4 months.. *waiting*

You know, something isn't right with the delay in reporting the story. She failed to report the incident because by the time she regained her composure after it she thought it was too late. That does not make sense and if she had a permit for the weapon, then she probably knew such incidents need to be reported. She is lucky the bad guy did not first report that he asked for for $5 and she pulled a gun on him.

The post incident quote of her demand to the robber to go ahead and shoot her because she was going to kill him sounds very contrived and extremely stupid. You don't give a verbal warning to somebody who has a supposed gun to your head that if they don't shoot you that you will shoot them. If they have a gun to your head and you manage to get your gun out and point it at them, then you shoot them. That sounds way too Hollywood where you see the protagonist and antagonist standing arm's length apart, each with a gun to the other's head and each demanding compliance from the other.

Yeah, sure does sound fishy... If she felt she needed to pull the gun, and the guy was holding 'something' up to her head.. that'd be an good time to pull the trigger.

"If you're going to shoot me then do it, 'cause I'm definitely going to kill you,"

Now THAT is the spirit of the bayonet!

You must understand, folks. A lot of people have never been to Gunsite, they've never read the gun rags, and many people involved in shootings or related incidents of self defense WILL give the attacker verbal warning, even when their lives are in immediate danger. I don't know why, but you read about it a lot, people talking or threatening when they ought to be shooting.

I'm not going to accuse the old woman of lying without ever having met her, though.
