To me, tailgating is stupid; if the guy in front jams the brakes, the tailgater is automatically at fault when Bad Stuff happens. "Following too close" is rough on insurance premiums and grills/radiators. There's also the "Whiplash!" problem.

Hanging in the left lane and not moving over for faster traffic is also foolish, as it creates a situation where several different drivers must all make correct judgements and decisions. It also makes people angry and angry people do foolish things--like tight tailgating and even bump drafting.

This particular event, seems to me, had two people trying to out-stupid each other, and she won.

I always pull over into the right lane, no matter what the speed limit is. There's always one nut that wants to do WAY over the limit and if they're that crazy, then I don't want to deal with them any longer than I have to. There's been a few times that I'd pass them later...after they get pulled over by the cops. :neener: Thats when I get my giggle for the day.
 
It was probably me that got her fired up. The left lane isn't the 65 lane, or the 75 lane or even the 100 lane. It's the passing lane. So get the :cuss: out if you're going slower than anyone on the road, regardless of how reckless they're driving! My court fees over the years certainly reflect that attitude though. Oh the guns I could own...

Seriously though - what an idiot. I blame cars, not guns. I remember a guy going to his trunk for a crossbow and killing a guy out of road rage. If we only banned those darn cars the world would make so much more sense... licensing isn't enough... when will they learn?!

As for tailgators,.... If they run in to me, they pay.... BIG.... It's their fault... They must learn to be paitent.... I'll move over when it is clear...
 
A short story from my youthful days

I've just turned right from a two lane road onto a four lane divided.
I'm cruising along minding my own at about ten or fifteen miles over the limit.
I'm in the right lane, a sparse roadway with next to no cross roads. It's pretty late, about four am or so. No traffic ahead.

I notice a car behind me. It's closing on me. Probably twenty five over.

The car gets right up behind me, highbeams on.
I slow a little, the car does not pass. There was and is still a passing lane.
***?

Seven seconds pass..
I slow down more.

Still there.
Another seven seconds..

I move over into the passing lane.
Car follows me over. Right on my bumper.
About 5 seconds pass and I'm figuring I'm about to be assaulted and/or car-jacked.

Alright damnit. Getting a bit pissed now.
I'm at the speed limit now, or a little under.
I move back to the right lane.
The car follows me back over..

Adrenaline flowing freely.
About three or four seconds elapse.. grass shoulder to the right ..
an opening in the divide to my left! no oncoming traffic .. I take into it .. snap left-snap right ..
probably 0.6g's ..
The other driver is left on the other side and now I'm on the wrong side of the road.

And then he turns on those blue spinning lights ..
Damn.


Ticketed for careless driving. He just didn't get or care that it appeared as if he was poised for an assault, and no way to ID him with high beams blaring at me with no blues or siren.

I intended to fight this one in court, tooth and nail, but I fell ill with the danged flu.

The one and only time I was ticketed falsely!
Deserved the rest of 'em though.
 
I love my g/f. and she admits to me, which makes me smile every time; women are the worst drivers!

I have also tried the speed up slow down thing. Half the time the driver must be oblivious to whats going on. Probably texting or eating or whatever else people do in their cars except drive appropriately. I hardly ever get the rage on the highway, its the main roads I get the craze. lol The traffic lights are all untimed. I really don't understand that one. ***. Why is it hard to set up a series of 25 lights to go green in secession at 35 mph :cuss:

That alone would alleviate my stress by at least 75%. Too bad shooting a paint ball at retard drivers is also a crime. Hey thats a good idea, we could all get paint ball guns and when someone is doing something stupid, we shoot their car. The cars with all the paint are the retards and we can revoke their licenses. Rant over thanks and sorry :cool:
 
I had a cop tailgating and shifting around once, like that. Couple of miles, riding my bumper, wouldn't pass, wouldn't back off to a warning tap. I was in a station wagon and he was so close I couldn't see his lights.

I'd slowed all the way down to 40, sped back up to 55, nothing.

I was about 3 seconds from treating it as a criminal threat when Gail said, "I think it's a cop."

He only gave me a "Warning" for a "dirty license plate" that he couldn't read...

I suggested that if he'd hit the lights AT ONCE I'd have been happy to pull over and discuss it.

I didn't mention that he'd almost eaten bumper, taken fire, or whatever else would have been my response had he not been IDed right then.

I mean, really, how stupid can you GET? I am NOT going to stop on the freeway, or slow down to where I can be forced off.

On the lighter side, a friend just back from Iraq was given a warning. Seems he was driving through the TX desert near Dallas in a Suburban, fresh back from Iraq, and someone slowed down in the left lane in front of him.

seems he responded with the standard bump and drive, and spun the guy onto the shoulder.:eek: :D

After explaining the reflex, the cop nodded and reminded him to pay attention to being stateside, and suggested to the other party that he not be a left lane hog.:evil:

On a two lane road, they pull over as far to the right as possible so you can pass them as well. There are parts of Texas where it is customary for slower drivers to pull over and drive on the shoulder of two-lane roads to allow faster drivers to pass.

In Washingtion it is state law that you must pull over if you are hindering 5 or more vehicles behind you. But don't get me statrted on Washington drivers...:banghead:
 
rage against control freaks

I don't understand allot of discourteous behavior on the highway. It looks like we might have quite a few of "those" kind of drivers on this board.
So..... can anyone tell me why a driver won't move over for you when the right lane is open but when you pass them on the right they race you.?:confused:

I have no patience. Why not give people like me a shot at a less stressful life and get out of my way? :)
