Woman stops burglars, holds suspect for police
By Liz Fabian
Telegraph Staff Writer
A woman who surprised two burglars inside her home grabbed one of them and held him for 25 to 30 minutes until officers arrived, police said.
When Donna Howard came home to Cedar Street to check her mail Monday afternoon, police said, two men were inside rounding up her belongings.
"The bigger guy got past me. He kinda rushed past and I snatched at him, but he was able to get away. The little guy I was able to get a hold of," Howard, 42, said Tuesday.
Howard forced the man to put down a lamp and kept him and his accomplice from taking a suitcase loaded with phones, a citizens band radio and a singing bass wall trophy. She said they had already gotten two televisions and another lamp.
She admitted she had an edge. The suspect, Bobby Walter Brown, 47, is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 116 pounds. Howard says she stands five inches taller and weighs over a hundred pounds more.
"He was smaller than me. I kind of had the ups on it. One of his hands was in a cast," Howard said. "I just held on to him, the poor little thing. He was wiggling and everything. He kept telling me to let him go, that I was hurting his wrist."
She wrapped both hands around his wrist and wouldn't let go even when the first officer arrived.
"He was in plainclothes, and he kept telling me I could let him go, but I was thinking 'Who are you?,'" Howard said.
When patrol cars arrived at the house, she released him to the officers.
Macon police spokeswoman, Melanie Hofmann warned against people trying to take police work into their own hands.
"Call 911 immediately, and wait for police assistance. Do not attempt to detain the person if you are alone," Hofmann said.
Howard, who drives a recycling truck for the city, has had second thoughts about the incident.
"They could have had a gun, or a knife. I didn't think about that then. I was hoping God was with me."

She's already got the right attitude. Now she needs some tools and some training. :p

One little razor blade sure could have made this outcome a lot less pleasing.

hmmmm

dont detain or attack suspect......

call 911 an wait........

1/2 hour response.........

can we say job security!

In my home, the fight would have been against a 110 lbs being.

Fortunately, burglars rarely enjoy the presence of my German Shepherd, especially if he hasn't been fed yet. :)

he was there for moral support........
now hes going to be providing _ral support in the clink

...kept him and his accomplice from taking a suitcase loaded with phones, a citizens band radio and a singing bass wall trophy...

I think she should trade the heirloom singing bass wall trophy in on a .357 magnum—but at least she stopped another burglar, and that's the main thing.
