Ms. K,
corneredcat.com is educational, not a forum. Well worth your time.
The Texas CHL Forum (link from
http://www.texasshooting.com ) has a number of women members; one is a CHL Instructor. However, I do not think you need to be shy about discussing anything on THR - the women will answer and some of the men, but as far as I can see, none of the men will be hostile or snotty.
Look at it this way: I take in and place stray / dumped / feral cats, and am on an old-fashioned Listserv mailing list for cat people. About 95% of the members who write anything are women - but that does not stop me from participating. I tread lightly and watch my language, but I do the same on THR.
There have been threads on here about how one deals with the pistol on one's belt when using a public rest room; some advocate putting the pistol on the tank, some hanging it by the trigger guard (gasp!) on the coat hook, and some say to hook the elastic of one's shorts over the grip, to hold the pistol secure. If we can discuss this kind of issue without devolving into lavatory humor, there is not much we can't discuss.
If you wish to discuss the reasons you carry, or your individual concerns that lead you to carry, remember that this is the internet - no one knows who you are, there is not much you can't openly discuss. If you want to discuss uncomfortable or catastrophic experiences that you would wish to discuss only with other women, that is understandable - but you will probably be pleasantly surprized at how your concerns are treated here, if you choose to share them.
There is a web site called womenshooters.com - run by the people who have a magazine called Women and Guns - and I think it has a forum.
Anyway, have fun - and please do not overlook the sporting / competitive aspects of shooting, even if your primary interest is in self-defense. I can not overstate the open, welcoming attitude you will encounter among competitive shooters - you don't have to be in it to "win", all you have to want is to (safely) have fun and improve your skills.
Anyway, welcome again. And if you choose to say something about what you carry, how (holster, purse, or whatever) you carry it, what you like and what you don't - you can be assured of some thoughtful responses.
Regards,
Andrew
