Women & Pink Guns

My thought on the matter is, for a range gun, whatever she wants.

For a CCW, brushed stainless and blued are easier to hide. It's not a fashion statement if no one sees it.

If I were a goblin, I wouldn't take a pink gun as seriously. If someone cares so much about the color, they're not going to want to get bloodstains on their new jeans. But it comes down to body language.

See no problem with pink grips. Her hands will cover those anyway.

Why does it matter what color it is? If it's properly concealed, you can't see it...whether it be flaming pink or flat black.

You're right that it isn't a fashion statement, either. It's preference. I see no difference between pink or brushed stainless with rosewood grips. Either way, it is what the user prefers and it is concealed so it doesn't matter.

Just playing devil's advocate. :)

My wife *loves* pink. As a matter of fact ... her hair is pink, right now. She has pink clothing, pink accessories ... you name it.

So while she does like *some* pink guns it's a matter of what kind of pink they are. She doesn't like cheap looking guns of any color.

Sadly she doesn't like cheap guns at all. 8(

My gf wants a sti elektra with the pink lettering and grips.

Personally, if it gets them to shoot and protect themselves more power to the pink gun. Its just a color. Don't try to be overly macho.

Look up Judo Gene Lebell and his trademark pink Gi. Don't ever take somebody less seriously because of the color of their weapon, or the color of their uniform. Gene Lebell is a very dangerous man. A pink .38spl is still very deadly. Color in not indicitive of the person behind it.

Only thing I worry about is the bad guy actually realizing that a real gun is being pointed at him. Hate for the mutt to try a disarm or continue doing what he was doing that got the gun pointed at him. Shooting someone is the last resort.

IMHO, pink (and any other weird color) guns should be dedicated range guns.

I prefer flat black, would never carry anything pink for fear that folks would think I had it merely as an accessory, and not as a functional tool. Its hard enough being taken seriously as a female shooter without having a frou-frou gun!
:)

Does this gun make me look fat?

An attacker not taking a pink gun as a real threat? If that were the case of my SD gun s would be pink. I would love nothing more than a badguy to lower his gaurd and assume my pink gun will bring him no harm. Who thinks like this?

Love that pic you made armoredman. As to the topic, does it really matter what color? I had a guy all set to give me a gently used SIG, all I had to do was carry it for a year. The only thing about it was it was pink. I said I'd do it but his wife put a stop to it. He was trying to prove a point and so was I.

I don't think that I would instinctively not take any gun seriously regardless of the color, but it does say something. How it is interpreted is really up to the BG. The assumption vikinggirl pointed out could be made or the BG could make the opposite assumption as well "he has a pink gun, he's making a statement because he is too confident." The color does not effect the lethality of the gun at all, but I'm sure in some small way it has a bearing on the gun's psychological effect.

I asked my girlfriend her opinion, she don't mind the idea of pink guns, but her gun is stainless steel with pearl grips, and it got her into shooting so I don't mind, i enjoy taking her, and she has gotten pretty good, and it never would have happen if all i had was a glock or something like that.

My friend/coworker bought his daughter a pink S.I.G. for a Christmas present. He likes it so much he takes it to the range. Daughter likes his Ruger Black Hawk better than the S.I.G. His wife shoots Glocks. Everybody in the family is happy.

Now, notice I didn't say a BG should take a pink gun less seriously. Just that some of them very well may.

The reason being, like clothes, 'pretty' things are often chosen for the look, not the utility.

Like I said, it would come down to the body language. If a woman strikes a good weaver stance, aims dead-center, and the gun is rock steady, only the dumbest BG's out there would keep going.

Utility is necessary. Utility plus "pretty" is an added bonus that makes me happy.

Here's a thought: if a woman wears a lot of pink or light colors, a pink gun could be easier to conceal depending on how she carries it. You can only wear black under other dark colors unless you're going for the "I'm wearing black under light clothing and want you to notice" look. Of course, I like light pink, not the pepto-pink.

For me it's like what's on the corneredcat website: "She's cuddly, she's cozy, she likes to curl up next to a crackling fire on a cold winter's day. She's great company. But don't try to trap her in a bad situation." That's me. I like being a lady and enjoy all that goes with it but I can go toe-to-toe with guys of the good or bad variety.

As it relates to people at the range, I'm only there to shoot for myself, so if other people don't take me seriously it doesn't bother me. I have to be serious all day long at work, and I enjoy focusing on shooting at the range. It's nice to get a break from being Ms. Short Skirt Long Jacket.

If Sam Colt had made his Paterson Revolvers with a pink finish we would all be wondering about those odd folks that want to buy blue/black guns today.

Perhaps I should attempt to clarify my statement. If the bad guys see a pink gun, I'm worried they may think it's a toy. If they think it's a toy, it has no deterrent value. :scrutiny:

A large number of bad guys are stopped when they realize their victims are armed. (John Lott)

If (God forbid) I have to point a gun at someone, I win if they quit their behavior and run the heck off. I want that gun I'm pointing at them to look like a gun. :what:

Not a "Dora the Explora" limited edition squirt gun. :p

I remain convinced that BGs don't like having guns pointed at them, and don't like being shot with any color

if they do laugh, unlikely as it is, they will settle right down when hit with a pink bullet, a blue bullet, a silver bullet, or just plain lead

Hhmmm....Well, I think some of them are very cute, although I have never purchased one. If someone presented one to me as a gift though...I would happily accept it, and be proud to appropriately display it to friend/foe.

However, I prefer my tools to appear starkly menacing.--Patrice
