Well.. I finally went and did it! Purchased my first ever semi-auto today. Picked up a NIB P365XL today. Wanted the one with safety but they were no where to be had... at least not in this neck of the woods..and I wasn't willing to wait for it. So I'll be ordering the manual safety retrofit later this week. I'm guessing I can Dremel out the notches to make it all work.
I've been sitting in my chair for the last hour working the slide and practicing my trigger discipline and presenting it at the hall doorknob 25' away while dry-firing. I think years of shooting DAO revolvers are now paying me dividends with my trigger press. I will know for sure in a couple of days when I take it out and put a couple hundred rounds thru it on targets.
Just super excited to have my first, and second semi-auto (got a Kimber Micro .380 too) it's for my wife to shoot. I really like that little guy too!

Good for you and altho you wish a manual safety...these are pretty similar in action to a DA revolver with hammer down, as in, the firing pin is compressed some but not enough to fire the gun inadvertently..they don't 'just go off'.. IF you are skiddish about reholstering..get a holster that you can take off easily, re-holster, then back on your belt..The beauty of strikers is the safety of having them in condition 0...one less thing to do when ya gotta have it 'now'...

I have been carrying a striker, one in chamber, no external safety, for along time as have many others w/o inadvertent discharges.

I really hate striker fired hand guns but the 365 appealed to me because of the manual safety.
Really like the gun and the way the safety works. Had to return it to Sig because the night sights went out but they fixed and returned it in less than 2 weeks so kudos to them for their customer service.
Liked the platform so much I tried to get an XL with the safety and the Romeo zero sight but it's currently unavailable.
Shame on Sig because I've moved on . Now have the hot's for a new Colt Python. ;)

I love my 365s, haven't had a chance to try a Xl with a Romeo, but I am one who prefers no manual safety - point and shoot like the old Kodak Instamatic

I am a revolver guy right through to the core. The only autos I've ever shot well have been 1911's and the old S&W Model 39's Never liked any of the plastic guns and I've tried dozens. I shoot every week with a bunch of guys and we have a lot of informal competitions shooting combat and SD drills. I have no problem keeping up with speed and accuracy with my 3" K frames except of course capacity. This all changed about a month ago when I tried a P365. Every where I go I have heard all the great praise of the 365, so finding a deal, I picked up one. It is the only compact semi that just felt right the moment I picked it up. Maybe it is a mental thing, I don't know, but I can shoot the P365 as good as any SD gun I've ever shot. Ive already put over 1000 rounds through mine with not one hiccup and has replaced my revolver as my carry gun. I can't say enough good stuff about it and now I have doubled my ammo capacity.

I am beginning to believe that the 365 XL represents the zenith of concealed carry pistols, the perfect blend of size, ergonomics, capacity, reliability, accuracy, excellent sights and sublime trigger.
OP, great choice. I think you'll enjoy it.

I haven't handled a single plastique-fantastique striker fired pistol with a safety positioned so I can reach it without breaking my grip. That's an absolute show stopper for me, so none of mine have thumb safeties.

You might check before Dremeling.

Congrats on your first ever semi-auto! Great choice on the SIG P365XL! I too prefer a safety as the triggers on the P365s that I have handled felt like they had a very light trigger pull to them. Anyways let us know how the DIY safety install works out and how things go at the range.

I did!! When I un-holster it the index side of my thumb easily sweeps it off as I'm presenting it. Quite intuitively placed I must say.

I had originally zeroed in on a Glock G43X..but having no safety available was a game changer.. especially for my peace of mind.
