Ehhh, not sure. I really don't spend a lot of time talking to gun counter guys, so don't hear many sales pitches.
However, I've witnessed some funny stuff. Once I was in a Gander Mountain and the counter kid had unlocked the case for a pleasant looking middle aged guy (button-down shirt, sweater vest, slacks -- real mild-mannered sort) and his 10-12 year old son or maybe grandson. As I walked past he'd just handed them a shorty Mossberg 500 with the pistol-only grip and was going on about how it was, "really what you need for home defense!"
LOL. I didn't think the customer looked very convinced, but the sales kid sure was.
