Would like opinions on Hogue grips.

Just out of curiousity, does anyone else find themselves unable to find a comfortable grip with the Hogue finger groove grips? Perhaps my hands are "unique", but I've tried 1911, P220, and P228 finger groove grips, K frame round butt conversion grips, the AR-15 grip, and their handall sleeves. My pinky seems to find itself in the most uncomfortable position, and I have to constantly re-adjust my grip. I have had their stocks on 10-22s, Win 1300s, a Mossberg 500, and 3 different 870s and was more than impressed. Is it just me?

Some just can't stand the things. I rather like them though. I have a set for my 1911, and the only reason they didn't stay on there is because they aren't conducive to carry. If I ever get a "house" 1911, they'll go on.

It's personal preference.

I have them on a MarkII, and a couple of Ruger DA's, and they are very comfortable for me. It might just be personal preferance, or the size of your hands.

In the past, you had to trace your hand on a piece of paper, and send it to them with your order. That was pre-internet. You could contact them and see what they say. They are terrific to deal with.

I use Hogue on one of my CCWs. Fits my hand well, but may not fit everyone.

Not everybody likes the Hogue grips, although they are extremely popular. I put a set on my KP-90 Ruger, and those made a huge difference in how well I could shoot it. I have a Pierce brand groove grip thingy in my Springfield Champion 1911...again a big improvement.

Like how the Tyler "T-Grip" was/is very popular for revolvers, but again, not for everybody. I tried a couple of revolvers with the Tyler, and it just didn't work for me.

For me it depends on the gun. I tried a pair on a Browning Hi-Power and could never get the right feel. I replaced them with wood panels.

I have both rubber and cocobolo Hogue finger groove grips for my SP-101, and they both fit me fine.

For my P228 I have the Hogue rubber panels instead of the finger groove grip. I think they look much better than the finger groove style, and I like the fit in my hand better than the SIG factory plastic or the wood panels I tried.

I have a friend who cannot use the finger groove grips, they always place his fingers in unnatural postions.

Grips have to do with size and fit. The idea that any set of grips improves things, or even works acceptably, for everyone makes no sense at all.

I LOVE most Hogue revolver grips, not including round-to-square conversions.

The idea of adding more rubber to almost any autoloader seems ridiculous to me. The 1911 is available with more than one mainspring housing - take your choice. But LARGER grips? Not for me. And that is on a 1911, one of the smallest full-size guns. Most larger guns, like the SIG or Beretta or others, need METAL ground off. Don't even think about ADDING thickness in the grips. In other words, Hogues for autoloaders are out of the question.

I've got smallish hands and Hogues generally fit me well. On my BHP the side panels are slimmer than the factory wood stocks, and the finger grooves fit pretty well. On K Frames I like magnas with pachmayr grip gappers, Tyler Ts, or replace the combo with a Hogue. On my SA GI I have Hogue rubber side panels, not a wrap around, again, thinner than the factory wood, and I like the look of of the black rubber on the parked gun. My general experience is that Hogues tend to fit smaller hands better and Pachmayrs tend to fit larger hands better. Those are tendencies, but individual fit will vary of course.

Your grip preference is also driven by the way you, err, grip. I grip my revolvers pretty high on the frame, so my fingers come down on the main part of the grip at a downward angle, so finger grooves of any kind are out of the question. As a result, I replaced the stock Hogues on my 686 with Packmayr Compacs (no grooves) and they work a lot better for me.

I do admit though that I like the standard Uncle Mike's boot grips on my 642 just find, with their single finger groove.

The best thing you can do is go to a shop that has lots of different grips that you can "try on" for size.

I have installed Hogue Bantams on all my L- and K- frames. I love the feel of Hogue Bantam on my J-frame 340 but have to remove it in favor or a grip with covered backstrap - the recoil is way too painfull for me with naked one.

I put Hogue wood grips on all my S&W revolvers and Sig semi autos. I can highly recommend their customer service too.

Love the Hogue grips [rubber] on both autos, SW 9mm and 45. I have long fingers, and the extra "fatness" on a Hogue grip over a doublestack 9mm works for me, but others can't stand them when they try it.

I tried the finger grooved rubber grips on a Ruger 41 SA...and was totally ambivilent about them. Didn't really like the way my hold on the gun was affected, and really didn't like what it did to the look of a SA. Went back to the original rosewoods. [IMO, rubber grips on a SA sticking out of a western rig holster just doesn't look right!]

I put a set of Monogrips on a Ruger Security-Six and I'll never go back to the factory ones...they worked out well for me.

I have Hogue grips on most of my handguns. For the 1911's I use the palm swell grips. They come one for each side. All of my semi-autos have Hogue mono-frips on them. I like how they fit & feel.

I have Hogue wrap arounds with the finger grooves on my Beretta 96 Brigadier. So far I love them. They fit me nicely and I find it's easier to grip with them.

Don't know about semi autos but I put Hogue Mono Grips on all my revolvers and really like the feel.

I'm planning to replace the grips on my Taurus 44B6 (similar to model 29 S&W) with a set of Hogue's however I'm planning to purchase the stocks that don't have finger grooves. I'm with you that the finger grooves just don't "match up" with my hand causing me a lot of shifting around. The finger grooves on S&W wood grips are like this as well. Maybe hogue makes them too for all I know.

I've had two sets of wrap around grips. one on a ruger p90 and the other on a para-ord p12 it made the ruger feel like it was made just for me.and the on para it really helped control muzzle flip. i'm 6'2" about 210 and have average large hands. have you tryed pacmeyer palm swell grips they really fill the hand nicely and have no finger grooves. hope this helps

I have Hogue grips on my S&W-5906, I like them compared to the beat up slick plastic grips that came with the pistol. On the other hand S&W sent me brand new curved backstrap factory grips just for sending them a letter asking if the factory grip was one of the recalled earlier grips prone to cracking.

I've tried both the Hogue and the new factory curved, and I like them both.

I've got Hogue wrap-arounds on my Beretta M9 I have at home. They help a lot! I love 'em!
