Lets just say the amendments for assault weapons and high capacity magazines came up, and everyone who is opposed to the bill voted FOR them. Now the bill is horribly unpassable. I dunno enough about politics to say if there is an easy way to then remove the amendments, etc.

Just curious what would happen if this were done.

Such a Bill wouldn't even make out of the Senate and if it did, it would be DOA in the House of Representatives, the AWB and Mag ban is Dead, Feinstein will without a doubt add those Amendments and they will be voted down or it will kill the entire Bill!;)

She'll propose them and that amendment will get an up or down vote that will be either overwhelmingly DOWN or just enough to keep it out of the bill (depending upon whether they want a soft landing for her or not). That won't stop the bill itself, just her amendment. If they vote her amendment UP I'll be shocked because it is a poison pill for the entire bill.

So my question is, what if say all the Republican senators vote for it. Now you've got the amendment in the bill.... Now the bill is dead...

That might be why one of the moderators described the "sell out" GOP votes as a very mysterious process like three-dimensional chess, even though it looks bad at first glance.

The short term tactics often disguise the longer term strategies. If not, then they must already know their chances of re-election.

I can dig it. Would sure be nice to have faith restored in some of our republican officials. But if we're wrong about them.....

I guess time will tell.

The AWB and Mag ban are not to be added (as in future tense), they have been added already.

Last Thursday I believe by Harry Reid here's the story notice my bold lined portions...

about 5 paragraphs down...'' So, here's where we are. Right after the Senate proceeded to the gun control bill, Harry Reid used his privileged recognition to put a bunch of amendments in place. In Senate parlance, they are referred to as an "amendment tree;" and they contain the universal registry bill, the Feinstein gun ban, and the magazine ban. These will be voted on in upcoming days.''

Be careful what you wish for. I'm afraid that if the conservatives vote yes for the AWB and Mag ban in order to poison the bill, it will wind up getting passed anyway. I trust Washington less than I trust N Korea these days.......

They haven't been added. They've been prioritized for an up or down vote as to whether to amend them to the bill.

Matt

It's all a big game by the safe Democrats getting to vote yea on the up/down vote, and give the appearance that they are trying to do something positive in their constituents eyes, even though the gun/magazine ban will be left on the tracks later.

It's all about appearances, lies, and posturing tactics.
